KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s army has retreated from a neighborhood in the outskirts of Chasiv Yar, a strategically important town in the eastern Donetsk region that has been reduced to rubble under a monthslong Russian assault, a military spokesperson said Thursday. Chasiv Yar is a short distance west of Bakhmut, which was captured by Russia last year after a bitter 10-month battle. For months, Russian forces have focused on capturing Chasiv Yar, a town which occupies an elevated location. Its fall would put nearby cities in jeopardy, compromise critical Ukrainian supply routes and bring Russia closer to its stated aim of seizing the entire Donetsk region. The Ukrainian army retreated from a northeastern neighborhood in the town, Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesperson for the Khortytsia ground forces formation, told The Associated Press in a written message Thursday.

On 3 July, Deep State analysts reported the occupation of the Kanal neighborhood, noting that it had been “completely erased”.
They argued that maintaining the neighborhood in the face of logistical problems would have increased losses.
That was a well-known tactic of the Mongols. It worked exceedingly well: Attack them, feint a retreat, and then surround and annihilate them. For a few years, Gengis Kahn was the largest empire in the world -- 'till he wasn't.

Mongols, rolled over Russia, then crushed Poland, advance until they met the Prussian Knights in Germany who stopped them cold. Poles say they took out the best the Mongols had before they fell. People forget—Russians lean things on the field of battle. They are better than they were a year ago. They are tough fighters who will fight until victory. The Ukrainians are no slouches but, they are outnumbered. Unless they get real help like WW III, they will lose. Time to stop the fighting and make a deal. Too many have died on both sides.
