Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch reports that Biden will resign on Monday (8 July)

I guess that would make Kamala Harris President.

If Joe resigns and Kamala is “installed”, then the Senate and Congress can start a months long confirmation hearing that will take a month or so due to lingering uncertainty about her Natural Born Citizenship. In the end she is not confirmed and sometime around Labor Day the Dems are forced to go with pick #3, whoever that may be.

I like that scenario.

Yeah...I think there could be a misunderstanding, by ‘resign’, resign what? I’d guess it would be ‘resign from the 2024 race’. I don’t see any point in resigning ‘from being POTUS’ now.

Nonsense . Joe isn’t going anywhere, he needs to pardon Hunter and protect all of his side hustles. He could cut a deal with Kameltoe to do this, but I think she would turn on him and even her handlers, Obama and company. I suspect she has a mean power streak under those cackles....

I guess that would mean losing a tie braking vote in the Senate.

My dog is smarter than Kamala—by far.

I guess Trump will have to ditch all the “47” merch, and switch over to “48”!

Well, the good news is that POTATUS acronym will still be perfectly appropriate.

Maybe I’m not understand your comment. Kamala doesn’t need to be confirmed. Only the new VP pick needs to be confirmed

We had long periods with no Vice President either because the President died in office (in some cases like William Henry Harrison, Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, and FDR, very early in the term), or because the Vice President died in office. It wasn't until 1967 that there was a mechanism to fill the Vice Presidency if it became vacant.

Calhoun resigned the Vice Presidency but near the end of his term.

If so, a new VP must be approved by a majority in House and Senate.

Any bets on how fast Republican’s surrender their House majority?

Is this so???

Tom Fitton@TomFitton

FUN FACT: If Biden resigns, and Kamala assumes the presidency, Harris “shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.” This means that the Republican-controlled House can insist on a Republican vice president.

I’m sure that the “Republican-controlled House” is too spineless to “insist on a Republican vice president”.

Maybe so. I’m thinking that in the spirit of bipartisanship and Doing What’s Right For Our Democracy (c) we should insist on Hillary Clinton. She’d be one heartbeat away from the Presidency. One...heartbeat...

The GOP House involved in the process is why I have a hard time with idea Biden will resign or be 25th-ed out of office. My bet is he stays in office. At the convention (maybe a little before!) he “throws” his support behind a “picked” heir apparent. Probably Kamala, possibly Newsum, Beshear, Whitmer, or Cooper. And of course Hellary is sulking in the background to maneuvering for another shot at “precious “.
