To save the imperiled spotted owl from potential extinction, U.S. wildlife officials are embracing a contentious plan to deploy trained shooters into dense West Coast forests to kill almost a half-million barred owls that are crowding out their cousins.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service strategy released Wednesday is meant to prop up declining spotted owl populations in Oregon, Washington state and California. The Associated Press obtained details in advance.

Wait. Wait. Wait! What if the barred owl just identifies as a spotted owl?

This is insane, arrogant as hell, and just plain stupid. Not to mention that there’s a pretty decent chance while the hunters are taking out the target species, they’re probably going to accidentally take out At least a few of the species they’re trying to save. I don’t have words for these freaking bureaucrats, all I can do is spit.

our wildlife biologist admitted that to me

I don't doubt it one bit. Years ago after I was stalked by a mountain lion, a biologist with the California Dept. of Fish & Game admitted to me that there were several thousand more lions than they said, which lead to them putting lions on the endangered species list and ban hunting.

Skinner: Well, I was wrong. The lizards are a godsend.
Lisa: But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're overrun by lizards?
Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards.
Lisa: But aren't the snakes even worse?
Skinner: Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.
Lisa: But then we're stuck with gorillas!
Skinner: No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.

when i hear “ endangered” i think

” absolute b.s. “

the wildlife biologists are all flaming communists infiltrating at the fed and state level, and their sole aim is resource utilization elimination and destruction of capitalism full stop.

“our wildlife biologist cooked the books”

He was trying to stop logging to support the Spotted Owl.

Lefties are truly crazy.

The barred owls usually prefer hanging around farms and fields. The Oregon demonrats have taken much of their habitat to build housing for illegal aliens and Californicators so the barred owls had no place to go except into the forest where the few spotted owls live. The demonrats are just plain stupid, dangerous humans who destroy whatever area they inhabit.

Who cooks for you who cooks for you all.

That's how to remember the barred owl. I hear them at night a lot, especially in the winter. I also hear the great horned howl and screech owl a lot in winter. Never see them.

Another guy and I did the Deschutes NF spotted owl survey in 1979. We didn’t find many spotted owls, at least ones that would answer our call. It was still a fun summer, though I missed out on a really good fire season.

Killing half a million owls means about 185 to 370 million more rodents per year as an owl will kill 1-2 rodents per night.
