As Biden team suggests there can be no alternative, DNC rules provide a path if Biden were to step aside

WASHINGTON — As President Joe Biden’s campaign tries to calm nervous Democrats, the Democratic National Committee is circulating talking points that misleadingly suggest, according to some sources, there is no procedural means of replacing the president at the top of the party’s ticket — without sharing the path ahead if he were to step aside.

But as the party’s rules stand now, according to three people who are familiar with them and the DNC’s 2022 document outlining procedures for the convention, there is a process for replacing Biden if he voluntarily chooses to step aside after the Aug. 22 conclusion of the convention.

Under the existing rule, Democratic National Committee Chair Jamie Harrison would name a new nominee, in consultation with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Democratic Governors Association Chair Tim Walz of Minnesota. Their choice would be presented to DNC members — a group of party leaders much smaller and more elite than the delegates to the convention — for ratification or rejection.

His nomination is expected to occur before that, in a virtual roll call of state delegations in late July or early August. A date for that is expected to be set by the convention's rules committee at a July 19 meeting.

The Biden campaign wants everyone to think “chaos would reign” if the president stepped aside, said one person familiar with the DNC process. “Thats why they’re not admitting there’s a rule.”

A Democratic staffer in a battleground state called the talking points "beyond f----ed up."

"This is what MAGA Republicans do, not us. DNC needs to get a grip," the person said.

“I guess NBC will have to wait”

They’ll probably call the NBC Nightly News’s main anchor, Lessie Holt (”America’s Anchorman”) back from vacation so he can guide us through these turbulent times.

I need so badly to hear his comforting voice!

Note to self: stock up on popcorn.

It's a Battle Royal on the convention floor as the Kamala cacklers, Obamabots, Clinton Cabal, the Gruesome Newsomes and the Heil Whitmers battle it out with Jill's Biden holdouts!
Meanwhile outside (maybe inside?), there's another scrum between the PLA, BLM, Antifa and the LGBTQ lobby!

Wonder who's gonna win?

FJB agrees not to run/steps down ...

He could always 'steps down', and fall doing so.

Interesting.
They obviously can (and already are) extend all kind of pressures on him to step down.
But, if Jill is stubborn, it may be very hard to do.

Anyway, the longer he hangs on, the better!

Even replacing him at this point is obviously not that great idea.

It is an admission, that we were lied to, and the greatest, smartest president of our times is really just a mumbling, senile idiot!

In any way, Trump, unless he commits some major error, has the presidency rounded up.

Moreover, a lot of voters are voting party ticket.
Party, lead by senile person will loose not just the presidency, but also down the ticket, at senate, congressional, and even at the state, and city levels!
In some way, I feel the pain of Democratic operatives! I would not like to be in their skins.

The Dems can’t bypass Harris with a white woman or a man. She got the VP job because of the melanin in her skin and her female parts. Not her competence. So, it’s either her or Obama’s old lady.

"This is what MAGA Republicans do, not us. DNC needs to get a grip," the person said.

Wait... what?!?

When did Republicans ever cast aside a nominee whom the voters selected and had the power brokers in the party choose their own person?

Remember in 2008 when Hillary Clinton won all the primary states and Barack Obama won all the caucus states, and then the "super-delegates" chose Obama over Clinton? And then they reformed the super-delegate process after that?

Remember in 2016 when Hillary Clinton stole all the DNC funding for the Bernie Sanders campaign and kept it for herself, starving Sanders primaries?

But I guess "that's what MAGA Republicans do," not the Democrats.

In other words, we have to eliminate the democratically selected nominee in order to save democracy . . .

And, actually, the three reporters got it WRONG. This is not true-

Under the existing rule, Democratic National Committee Chair Jamie Harrison name a new nominee, in consultation with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and Democratic Governors Association Chair Tim Walz of Minnesota. Their choice would be presented to DNC members — a group of party leaders much smaller and more elite than the delegates to the convention — for ratification or rejection.

The rule is clear: the Democratic National Committee is authorized to fill the vacancy or vacancies.

Sure, they gotta consult with people, but there is no ratification requirement.

The DNC has plenary kingmaker power if Bidet bows out after becoming the nominee.

Changing the name legally on the ballots, well, that’s a different story…

...Harris may be heir to Biden's campaign chest but not to his delegates, hence not to the nomination...

Somehow I suspect that if Kamela is the VP, the new team gets the campaign war chest. This avoids all kinds of future infighting.

Since when has the DNC followed the rules? They either change them or ignore them. Ask Bernie Sanders.
