McDonald's quietly confirms it is killing off one of it's most divisive menu items ever - leaving fans torn (only 6.61 years left)

McDonald's has given up on its bid to sell meat-free beef burger in America.

US president Joe Erlinger has said the McPlant has been ditched because customers did not want fake meat.

The chain had been testing the McPlant at several hundred restaurants in California and Texas since trials began in late 2021.

Developed with Beyond Meat, it was made from pea and rice proteins.

While it has flopped in the US, it has been a hit in the UK, Germany, Holland and Portugal.

But there is little chance of a return to America.

McDonald's is now shifting its focus to chicken, which has become more popular among its customers than beef, partly due to its lower cost.

Salads, which were taken off US menus at the start of the pandemic, will also not return, Erlinger said.

Those that want salads are going to dedicated sala chains like Chopt, Sweetgreen and Cava.

'If people really want salads from McDonald's, we will gladly relaunch salads,' Erlinger said at the Global Food Forum, according to Bloomberg.

'But what our experience has proven is that's not what the consumer's looking for.'

It is the second bit of major menu news in a week - the other being about the return of an item with a cult following.

The McRib - seasoned boneless pork dipped in tangy BBQ sauce and topped with chopped onions and pickles - is returning to America later this year.

Meat-free...

Reminds me of when used cars started being called previously owned...

“McDonald’s quietly confirms it is killing off one of it’s most divisive menu items ever”

As if any of their other ‘food’ is edible.

Michael J. Fox could be the spokesman for the McFly.

Soylent green. It’s not a question of if, but when.

That’s after the environment barely survived the McDLT in the 1980’s! </sarc>

Their fake meat never ran us off. What stopped our going to McD’s was the degradation of their most famous foods being the fries and Big Mac. I think the oils used for the fries was changed so they now are awful. And the Big Mac is no longer big and for some reason their “special sauce” tastes different and you need a magnifying glass just to see if they even put it on.

And the place is flooded with those obnoxious tattooed, studded, whiskered, sloppily dressed little pukes that think they own the place.

Not to mention the cooks and servers being the same kind of people and have questionable personal hygiene standards. It makes one wonder what could have fallen into the burger when being prepared.

Yuk!

If one can wean oneself from fast food for a year, maybe even 6 months, you won’t return, as if you do, it tastes like sawdust. Even the drinks suck.
If you are stuck out and have to get something, go to Wawa or the like.
Your body and mind will thank you.

[barely survived the McDLT]

I was trapped in McDonald’s parking lot once.

There were billions and billions of McDLT boxes around me.... :)

"What stopped our going to McD’s was the degradation of their most famous foods"

It's because they got rid of their styrofoam containers.

Is it real chicken, or lab grown?

Popular in UK? Especially on sir Paul McCartney’s Meatless Mondays. That Title of Nobility has a lot of sway in the UK.
