Clarence Thomas Goes After Jack Smith in Supreme Court Ruling
Newsweek ^ | 7/1/24 | Newsweek

Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas has questioned the legitimacy of Jack Smith's appointment as special counsel as the Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump is partially immune from prosecution for actions taken while he was in the White House.

In a 6-3 ruling, the justices returned Trump's case to the trial court to determine what is left of special counsel Jack Smith's indictment of Trump.

The several racist comments or claims in this thread are unfortunate at best. They are wrong. Both regarding the linked article and for being posted on FR. Surprising sometimes how little it takes to draw out racists on FR.

The man (DallasBiff) was clearly joking. It is a mistake for you to see his comment as "racist."

They could try recruiting history majors from Hillsdale or small colleges in the South where they actually remember American history,oh and teach it too.

I read Justice Thomas’s concurrence opinion as giving a ‘green light’ to Judge Cannon in Florida to rule that Jack Smith illegally occupies the Special Prosecutor job.

That, indeed, is low-hanging fruit. Here is some more from a sarcastic Sotomayor:

Relying on little more than its own misguided wisdom about the need for “bold and unhesitating action” by the President, ante, at 3, 13, the Court gives former President Trump all the immunity he asked for and more.

Is Jack Smith his real name or did he or his probable red diaper doped baby parents change it years ago to be more generic and unremarkable?

Good question. I was gonna ask, but will refrain since you brought it up.I have certainly seen some racist comments on FR once in awhile but none on this thread. All I see is defense of a black man.

Newsweak is clearly trying to reform itself.

My wife and I were talking about the debate and how CNN seems to be desperately trying to reform their image and restore some of their integrity.

The corporate media destroyed their credibility.

It's still one hell of an interview process, and then there's editorial validation. With today's rush to publish, it's tough to do. AI would help.

And Thomas is the justice assigned to oversee the 11th Circuit where Judge Cannon operates. Message couldn't be clearer.

Here's the money line: "If this unprecedented prosecution is to proceed, it must be conducted by someone duly authorized to do so by the American people. The lower courts should thus answer these essential questions concerning the special counsel's appointment before proceeding," Thomas added.
