FWIW, my right knee is killing me! So, I went in to see a doctor. We took pictures. The doc was expecting arthritis. I was hoping for something fixable.
NOTHING!!!! HE FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS STUPID PAINFUL KNEE! No arthritis, no bones broken or bent. Nothing that could be helped.
It is termed a “mystery condition.”
I am not angry with the doc, who is a good friend. I am in pain and wanted to get a diagnosis while on this side of the world.
Actually, x-rays don’t tell anything about a meniscus or torn ligaments, soft tissue. So, I’ve been referred to an orthopedic clinic and we’ll go from there.

That is what I was going to say. A few years back I had a knee that was very painful. They took a knee MRI. Found a torn ligament and a cyst.
