Argentina Logs First Week with No Inflation in Food Prices in 30 Years
Breitbart News ^ | 24 Jun 2024 | Christian K. Caruzo

For the first time in 30 years, Argentina experienced a zero-percent increase in the inflation rates of food and drinks during the third week of June, President Javier Milei confirmed on Monday morning.

A study published on Sunday by Econométrica, a private Argentine consulting firm, first reported the no-inflation week. In its study, Econométrica analyzed 8,000 prices in local online supermarkets and found no change when compared to the preceding week — something that has not happened in Argentina in three decades. In addition to the lack of variation in prices in one week, the study found that the prices of food and drinks only experienced an increase of 0.1 percent in the past 15 days.

President Milei, who is currently in Prague, confirmed the study’s findings on Monday morning in a telephone interview held with Argentina’s Radio Mitre, celebrating the news as a result of his economic policies.

“That means that we are on the right path — which there is still a long way to go, but the first signs that things are working are beginning to appear,” Milei told Argentine journalist Eduardo Feinmann.

“I sometimes present it, explain it, but, well, I have encountered in recent times gross levels of intellectual dishonesty. Because we all know that wholesale inflation is the one that predicts and anticipates retail inflation and the reality is that inflation in December when we arrived was 54 percent, that annualized gives 17,000,” he continued.

Milei added, “it also speaks of the misery or incompetence of other colleagues, doesn’t it? But the truth is that there is no country in the world where we are not recognized for our titanic task in terms of lowering inflation.”

Spills over here-hopefully? Doable. Will the GOP make sure of it? Think again.

I am aware of a sector in our vicinity that has 0% inflation. Paying bar bands. If I didn’t like it I would quit doing it. Never realized how rich I was in the mid 60’s. Same money as today 60 years later 🎸😬👍

Too bad Trump can’t draft him for VP!

Sad that it takes a beautiful, but basket case, country like Argentina to show us it can be done.

I’ve heard of folks moving to Argentina to escape the madness here. Wonder if that’s a viable option for someone on SSI. :-)

I just saw this food item : California test of McPlant burger flopped, McDonald’s says

US consumers aren’t looking for “McPlant or other plant-based proteins from McDonald’s,” Joe Erlinger, the chain’s US chief said. Instead, the company is investing in its chicken offerings.

Kind of funny as I often feel similarly.

Late teens in the 60’s. I was working for $1.25 an hour. Making more money than I knew how to spend.
Drove a small motorcycle. Half hour labor filled the tank. Tank was good for almost a week of riding.
Could take my girlfriend out for dinner and a movie for half a days labor.

Father had a relatively modest income for the time. Stay at home mom. Raised three boys, bought two new cars, a new waterfront home & boat on his salary. Still saved enough to eventually start his own business.

Times have changed. Some better. But, many worse. The value of our money and the cost of bloated government is pretty high on the bad list.

> ...Paying bar bands...

That's the truth. Been playing in bar bands since I was old enough to do so legally (I'm 72 now, still at it). Before that it was school "battle of the bands", LOL.

Rodney Dangerfield would have a field day with our situation. "I don't get no respect" is an understatement.

The occasional wedding or big party gig helps a lot, those folks usually even tip if you haven't gotten too loud. But for a bar gig? Better open up that guitar case, lay it out front, and hope for the best.

The reporter needs to learn the difference between inflation and the rate of inflation. The headline appears to be accurate (that there was no increase in food prices for the previous week). But then the opening sentence says:

For the first time in 30 years, Argentina experienced a zero-percent increase in the inflation rates of food and drinks during the third week of June, President Javier Milei confirmed on Monday morning.

LOL! Yup! Tips are weird these days too. Still, at 77(?) I feel blessed to be able to still keep up or outdo the kids (50’s). Need to sit on occasion due to back issues but.....Keep on rockin’ FRiend!

Yes Blessed indeed! Tonight I play some 60's/70's R&R covers (Beatles, Byrds, Stones, CCR, etc.) at a local winery. Looking forward to it. And yes, I got myself a high-class drummer's throne with a lower back support so I can sit and not be slouching (which after an hour makes standing up pretty creaky). Highly recommended.

> Keep on rockin’ FRiend!

You as well! Wow, 77 gives me something to shoot for!

Hey Rockers! I’m with the Jefferson Zeppelin Experience. Cover band. Some people say that our cover of Indian Love Call is out of this world. Well, technically, not people.

So I've heard! One reviewer said your rendition of ILC blew his mind.

Well, technically, it 'sploded his brain, but whatever...
