...Potential historical border issues also existed with regard to the Kaliningrad area and the Karelian Isthmus that had been part of Germany and Finland respectively before the Second World War, but these states did not put forward any territorial claims. Although Germany had denounced its interest for Kaliningrad, some Russians, including even scholars, feared that the threat of secession of Kaliningrad was real and involved ‘third parties’ 36 and domestic debate over the Karelian question was conducted in Finland.
Moreover, the border with China remained unsettled in some areas, for example, in 2003 Dmitry Trenin mentioned “a hypothetical probability that China may reanimate its territorial claims against Russia”. 38 At the time, the Russian-Chinese border had not been demarcated for the totality of its 4,300 kilometer length. Moreover, many Chinese felt that historically, large parts of Eastern Siberia were ancient Chinese lands. mgimo professor, China expert Aleksandr Lukin denied that China would have any territorial demands to Russia as officially China had not made any such claims. Lukin explained that some Chinese historians had brought up the opinion that Russia had captured many important Chinese territories in the 19th century, but all border questions with China had been solved. 39 Instead, Russian experts emphasized that China and Russia have common interests in safeguarding the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity upon which also Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (sco) was based. 40
Russia resisted actual and potential territorial claims with status quo rhetoric. Russian representatives held that border changes were not possible because of overall stability. Because all border adjustments are connected with wars, Yeltsin argued, even smaller ones would cause chaos in the whole of Europe.
In Putin’s view “changing borders is not the best way to resolve problems”, but instead he preferred “integration and cooperation” - Tuesday 6.11.2001

The Chinese are ‘expanding’ into parts of Siberia.
Vyborg today
“In 2001, In Putin’s view “changing borders is not the best way to resolve problems””
Looks like the Neocon policy of ETHNIC CLEANSING in Ukraine, along with other idiotic moves (like making them join NATO), forced him to change his mind.
Oh well...
Now do Detroit 1945 vs today.
There are lots of threads on that and it is a different issue - you can post another thread on that if you wish
This statement in red does not necessarily contradict Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine in 2022.
Since “integration and cooperation” had been rendered untenable (for one reason or another), the less optimal way of “changing borders” was utilized.
There was no policy, neo-con or neo-Muscowite or neo-BobL to conduct any kind of ethnic cleansing in Ukraine pre-2022 except in the Muscowite created Donetsk People’s republic and the Luhansk People’s republic - now part of the Muscowite Democratic People’s federal republic.
post 2022 the Kremlin hordes conducted ethnic cleansing in the parts they have occupied.
‼️French soldiers in Ukraine dressed up a pig as Macron and expressed everything they think about the French President (Emmanuel Macron), whose support level is falling record-breaking a week before the elections, is irritating not only the French civilian population. Nah, I’ll just point out your hypocrisy here instead.
That alleged 1945 photo has a car in it. The original source of the photo has more resolution. It could be zoomed. That model car did not exist in 1945.
You realize that is an utter lie.
No one "made" them join NATO - Ukraine in fact requested to join back in 2008 and that was rejected.
No one is "making them join" - rather this is countries rushing to get protection from Muscowite expansionism - see the next post
Oh yes it does — Putin doesn’t want to change borders when he has to give up land that Muscowy grabbed from Finland, Japan, China etc.
But he has no problem changing borders to grab land from others
You mean “Muscowite soldiers in Ukraine dressed up a pig who looked like Putin”?
You can look up pictures of Vyborg and see what you Muscowites have done to that Finnish city
