Russia appears to be placing military facilities near civilian areas in Crimea to deter Ukrainian strikes, experts say

Russia is likely placing military facilities near civilian areas in Crimea to try to deter further Ukrainian strikes, military analysts said.

The influential Institute for the Study of War reached the conclusion in an assessment on Sunday, citing a reported strike against Sevastopol, where Russia has its Black Sea Fleet headquarters.

On Sunday, Russia's Ministry of Defence accused Ukraine of launching five American-made MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems, also known as ATACMS, with cluster warheads on civilian infrastructure in Sevastopol.

Four ATACMS were shot down, it said, but the impact from a Russian air-defense interceptor caused one to deviate from its trajectory and its warhead to explode midair over the city.

Fragments of cluster munitions injured more than 20 civilians, including children, it said, adding that the US was partly to blame.

In a Telegram post on Sunday, Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russia-installed governor of Sevastopol, said four people were killed, 151 sought medical help, and 82 were hospitalized as of 9 p.m. local time.

Russian and Ukrainian sources appeared to confirm the missile strike, with some claiming cluster munitions landed near civilians.

ISW should be publicly challenged to identify the Russian military infrastructure they charge is embedded on the beach.

I contend they are making that assertion without evidence.

We are war with Russia. When you’re at war, everything is a weapon including civilian safety.

Russia has had bases there for 300 years. They suddenly moved them closer to civilian areas? Color me skeptical 🤨

The US-made missiles are quite accurate.

The Russians could only expect few attacks, but those attacks would use accurate weapons.

Neither the Russians nor the Ukrainians committed any war crime with respect to the incident.

Quotes:

Level A training “provides the minimum knowledge required for all members of the Army.” This training reinforces basic LOW concepts known as “The Soldiers Rules,” including that soldiers: fight only enemy combatants; do not harm surrendering enemies; collect and care for the wounded friend or foe; don’t attack medical personnel, facilities or equipment; destroy no more than the mission requires; treat civilians humanely; do not steal; and do their best to prevent LOW violations and report violations that do occur.

Level B training is the focus of this post. Level B training is conducted annually and potentially again prior to deployment. A judge advocate or certified paralegal non-commissioned officer must deliver the instruction. The training reinforces The Soldiers Rules instruction taught during initial military training and emphasizes the proper treatment of detainees.

Level C training emphasizes officer, warrant officer and non-commissioned officer responsibilities. This training includes LOW issues in planning and execution of combat operations and measures for reporting suspected LOW violations.

The study concluded that “[t]he intensity of direct combat seemed to be the strongest predictor of unethical conduct, which is borne out also by many anecdotes of combat veterans who describe intense and sometimes uncontrollable rage in association with horrific events, such as losing a close team-member.”

I’m sure Ukrainian officials in Kiev could tell you many similar stories.

The real problem is that the Biden administration wants war instead of peace in the region.

You might be at war with Russia, but I and most Freepers are not.

Neither is the USA.

America is at war with Russia in the same manner that China was at war with the US during the Vietnam war. They were sending soldiers and equipment and support to the Vietnamese and we are sending soldier and equipment and support the Ukrainians.

Yep, just what we thought. The Russians put that beach in Crimea right next to military base. Nice try, Russia, but we know better!

If Putin hadn’t tried to intercept the missile, those people would not have been harmed.

“Russia has had bases there for 300 years.”

But they MOVED THE BEACH there in the past 2 years. Remember all those stories about Russian soldiers with shovels - well, now we know what they were doing with the shovels - moving sand, one plastic bucket after another.

As to why the Neocons launched their missiles when the beach was crowded with people, that’s easy to explain too. The US drone footage showed a lot of people there with sand shovels, so the Neocons determined that they must all be soldiers* finishing the beach move.

*I guess they figured that the people there with one and two piece bathing suits were the latest design of Russian military uniforms.

Them Ruzzians don’t fool us Zeepers!!!
