As a child of the ’70s and ’80s, I, along with my age mates, remember Cold War nuclear annihilation fears well. Oh, I was born after “duck and cover” days, but we did, for example, have the post-apocalyptic 1983 film The Day After, which portrayed a nuclear war’s consequences. Watched by 100 million-plus Americans — more than half our adult population at the time — it’s credited for creating impetus for policies that reduced the atomic threat. Even then-President Ronald Reagan was “greatly depressed” by the movie, as he wrote in his diary, and it stiffened his resolve to, as he put it, ensure “there is never a nuclear war.”
That was then. Judging from people’s concerns today, you could think nuclear weapons had gone the way of the dodo. Americans are focused elsewhere, with young people worried about “climate change” and many doomsayers sounding an alarm over artificial intelligence (which may be problematic). But the atomic threat still very much looms. In fact, says a Harvard academic, nuclear war may be closer than ever.
Newsweek reports on the story:
A Harvard professor has warned the world is dangerously close to nuclear war at a time when leading experts key to preventing such conflicts are “aging out,” pleading with leaders to urgently seek help from a new generation of scientists and engineers.
Matthew Bunn, a professor of energy, national security and foreign policy, said “the risk of nuclear war has not been so high since the Cuban Missile Crisis” in 1962.
“Dark clouds loom on the nuclear horizon, with threats from all directions,” he wrote in an editorial for the scientific journal Science, released Thursday.
AI is a definite problem. But the biggest problem we face in America is the ten million illegal aliens mostly men, mostly in the 24 to 34 age group.
I’m from community College and I could have told you that!
We’ve got nothing to fear but fear itself
Not pain, not failure, not fatal tragedy?
Not the faulty units in this mad machinery?
Not the broken contacts in emotional chemistry?
With an iron fist in a velvet glove
We are sheltered under the gun
In the glory game on the power train
Thy kingdom’s will be done
And the things that we fear are a weapon to be held against us
He’s not afraid of your judgment
He knows of horrors worse than your Hell
He’s a little bit afraid of dying
But he’s a lot more afraid of your lying
And the things that he fears are a weapon to be held against him
Can any part of life be larger than life?
Even love must be limited by time
And those who push us down that they might climb
Is any killer worth more than his crime?
Like a steely blade in a silken sheath
We don’t see what they’re made of
They shout about love, but when push comes to shove
They live for the things they’re afraid of
And the knowledge that they fear is a weapon to be used against them
He’s not afraid of your judgment
He knows of horrors worse than your hell
He’s a little bit afraid of dyin’
But he’s a lot more afraid of your lyin’
And the things that he fears
Are a weapon to be held against him
He’s not afraid of your judgment
He knows of horrors, worse than your hell
He’s a little bit afraid of dyin’
But he’s a lot more afraid of your lyin’
I still believe Biden would risk getting us into a nuclear war rather than see his criminal family members prosecuted.
Nothing they say can be taken at face value, everything is a ploy.
What is the ployer trying to get us to do?
“Nuclear War: The Risk Has Perhaps NEVER Been Greater, Harvard Expert Says”
Party pooper! The Zeepers were just getting hard-ons now that the US is DIRECTLY attacking Russia.
Maybe he really believes it. Never forget the words of the great Thomas Sowell.
"There are some things so idiotic only an academic could believe them."
I’m not completely sure, but I think the “atomic clock” only moves closer to midnight if a Republican is in the White House. Democrats start all the wars, and are currently itching for war with Russia, but only Republicans can be labeled as “scary warmongers”.
I don’t really give a crap. At least I won’t have to pay any bills or pay Joe’s inflation prices for grocery and gas.
And he'd be able to keep Trump from the White House too. I can see RATS doing it since they've failed so far.
The chances are 50/50. It’s either gonna happen or not.
I use the same logic when playing the lottery.
The risk is great because America is weak due to various failed Democrat policies.
Russia is weak due to its stupid war.
China stands to profit by its two greatest long term enemies fighting.
China may well stoke the war.
From the article:
“ Moscow has a unique national interest in, and history with, Ukraine; we don’t. The conflict is in Russia’s backyard, not ours. If we don’t at some point soon veer off, civilizational destruction may result.
And what’s another way of saying this? Our mentality, where we worry about all the wrong things, may end up killing us.”

The globalists are definitely concerned with the wrong things, I wouldn’t call it worry. Global Totalitarianism isn’t worry, but they are intent on their agenda come he’ll or high water and most of humanity be damned.

None of the world’s psychopath leaders are even slightly afraid of The Big Guy. That’s way we’re so close.
Concur, its the problem right in front of us. Because when a man’s stomach starts growling...
Best to stay frosty.
But at some point, we’re gonna have to face whatever slung that impediment in our path.
XD XD
