Just two months ago, President Biden appeared to have a daunting financial advantage. Then Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felonies, and Republicans’ wallets opened.
Former President Donald J. Trump out-raised President Biden for the second consecutive month in May, outpacing his successor by roughly $81 million in donations over the last two months as he rode a surge of financial support after his felony conviction.
In May, Mr. Biden’s campaign and its joint operation with the Democratic National Committee raised $85 million, compared with $141 million for Mr. Trump and the Republican National Committee, according to the two campaigns. In April, the Trump team also brought in $25 million more than the Biden team.
The Biden campaign said it entered June with $212 million on hand combined with the party. The Trump operation and R.N.C. have not released a full tally of their cash on hand since the end of March. A partial count on Thursday, revealed in Federal Election Commission filings, showed that Mr. Trump had amassed a war chest of at least $170 million with the party.
Overall, Mr. Trump was a daunting $100 million behind Mr. Biden at the start of April. In two months, he cut that cash deficit by at least half. And for the first time, Mr. Trump’s principal campaign committee had more cash than Mr. Biden’s: $116.5 million to $91.6 million.
The full accounting of both sides’ finances will be made public in federal filings next month. But the combination of Mr. Trump’s improved fund-raising and Mr. Biden’s heavier spending on advertising this spring appears to put the two sides on a path to enter the summer relatively close to financial parity.

Embrace the Suck. Phony convictions have consequences.
Not only did the Show Trial add to Trump’s campaign accounts, they also added to his lead in the polls.
I do not believe this for a minute.
Jao Bai-din never had a lead and the owners of the New York Times need to be charged for every penny of their illegal political contribution-in-kind.

Typical snark.
Show us where Bidendropov is leading with Independents.
Big hint: You can't.
Absurd. This is just a simple process piece regurgitating FEC filings.
Geebus some of you are wound tighter than a tick on a dog's butt.

It's good to be caught up, but it is already June. And another reason we are caught up is because Biden has had the cash to be spending on campaign advertising and putting infrastructure in place...and Trump has not. There's a lot of catchup to play - not just with the money in the bank, but what the money was needed to be spent on. So had Trump been acquitted, the base would have continued to sit on their behinds and keep their wallets closed? Just continued to let the Democrats walk right over us and our candidates? The Left never sleeps...our side is constantly asleep at the switch.
It doesn’t appear he said Biden is leading with independents - he said those are the type of voters his campaign is targeting.
But at least a couple of recent polls did show him taking a lead with independents.

Biden has also been, as he did in 2020, targeting older voters and those who might be inclined to vote 3rd party - that “good ol’ Joe” is safe to vote for and Trump is scary / crazy / chaos, etc. He’s the man of leadership, values, and integrity vs. the unstable Trump - that’s the narrative. The polls also show movement among older voters to Biden just like in 2020...this is the demographic most likely to vote. They don’t go to rallies - they are at home watching Wheel of Fortune, Andy Griffith, etc. And like in 2020, so far they are only seeing Biden ads and being influenced only by his campaign’s narrative. That needs to change starting yesterday. One thing are the digital subchannels that the Biden campaign advertises on heavily nationally with zero presence from Trump. Alone these are lower rated networks, but collectively reach many millions of people and are the older demographic most likely to vote.
