Chuck Todd: How the 2024 election is hinging on capitulation versus character
NBC News | DNC ^ | June 19, 2024 | By Chuck Todd

One of the biggest developments of this campaign — and the biggest difference between 2016, 2020 and today — is the lack of fear of another Donald Trump term.

It may explain why President Joe Biden’s campaign — and before that, the primary campaigns of Republicans like Nikki Haley — struggled to move voters away from Trump by reminding them of his questionable character traits and chaotic governing style.

And right now, with the decision by Biden’s campaign to do whatever it takes to make this election a referendum on Trump and character, this lack of fear of Trump could be a real stumbling block as they try to galvanize voters to remember what Trump’s presidency was really like.

Think of it in simpler terms. The first time you went on a roller coaster that goes upside down, you likely had a pit in your stomach and perhaps worried about whether you’d fall out. For some, that fear is so great, it keeps them from even attempting the ride. But after riding said roller coaster without falling, that fear dissipated.

One of the great disconnects in the coverage of Trump today is the lack of memory the public has for many of the details of the Trump years, as opposed to the scarred memories those of us who covered Trump still have. Thanks to the pandemic and the human mind’s ability to memory-hole unhappy periods, a large chunk of the public has simply forgotten about the daily chaos Trump intentionally created with his presidency.

And yet, I’m convinced the sole reason why Trump lost the 2020 election was not due to his antics in 2017, 2018 or 2019 — but because of his erratic leadership during the pandemic itself.

Puppet Chuck Todd and his minions dutifully broadcast the Soros paid propaganda machine’s daily anti Trump rant 7x24x365 for five years. The MSM was guilty of sewing discord and chaos by spreading disinformation not Trump.

Yes, Chuck, so much to fear - stronger military vs. weaker military, terrorists on the run vs. terrorists being able to freely reorganize and strengthen, ending conflicts rather than allowing new ones to erupt, border security vs. border insecurity, economic prosperity vs. economic uncertainty, historic peace agreements like the Abraham Accords vs. massive chaos, energy independence vs. energy crisis, etc.

Yes. People fear a return of the pre-covid peace and prosperity of the Trump years. The psychotic America-hating progressive leftists fear an undoing of the controlled demolition of America and Western civilization.

The only reason Chuck Todd and his ‘journalist’ friends don’t like Trump is because he diminishes their stature. He calls them out for what they are, clueless talking heads who play fast and loose with the truth and can’t even do their nominal jobs correctly.

Character? Joe Biden has extremely troubling character flaws that are ignored by people like Todd. Bill Clinton has severe character flaws that are ignored by people like Todd. And the list goes on and on and on and on..

Not only does he diminish their stature, but Trump makes them work. And they don’t like that.

I recall hearing a story after the election was called for Bidet about how the press felt. In this particular story, the press was relieved because “covering Trump was exhausting.”

Here’s a 2020 pre-election story on the same topic: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/four-more-exhausting-years-trump-reporters-mull-covering-a-second-term-1292213/

“ As journalists, I don’t think anybody cares about what party the president of the United States is,” the producer says. (ED NOTE-WHAT A CROCK) “What they care about is being able to live their lives normally again. I think there’s mental exhaustion around this presidency, and I don’t know anybody who is enjoying it. I don’t know anybody who wants to do another four years of this news cycle.”

The producer continues: “It’s not a matter what his political beliefs or his ideological beliefs are. The exhaustion comes from his behaviors. That’s it. His behavior is exhausting. … I don’t I think have ever run into anybody who says they literally hate Donald Trump the man. They’re just exhausted by his behavior, and I think that’s fair. Nobody I know is openly rooting for him to lose.”

Using similar language, a broadcast news executive says that a second Trump term “would be exhausting” for journalists.

Upchuck just said, basically, all the fear over Trump is imaginary.

Chuck Todd says Democrats shouldn’t “capitulate.” Isn’t that what J-6 was about, not capitulating?

Oh, wait, Republicans are supposed to capitulate, and if they don’t it’s insurrection.

It’s like elections. When Trump won in 2016, the election was “hijacked”. But, anybody who says that the election of 2020 was “rigged” is to be de-platformed.

A little bias is probably unavoidable, but Democrats are such complete hypocrites, that they’re laughable.

There’s a reason why NBC News’ website doesn’t have a “comment” section. Come to think of it, only Fox News has a ‘comment’ section on their website. Any news site that doesn’t allow commenting is propaganda, pure and simple.

He is right, he simply has it backwards!

Americans should not capitulate to the left which has weaponized the justice system against the right, and have the character and courage to stand up to them and say no more!

Biden is trying to persuade the electorate not to believe its lying eyes.

No wonder he’s “struggling”.

Thirty six paragraphs.

No one is reading this.

I tried for about six before I looked at his educational credentials for publishing on NBC News. He declared poli sci a major, never graduated

He was editor in chief for National Journal whatever that is. He sure didn’t edit for structure and cohesion. He starts paragraphs with ‘and’. You can’t even start a sentence with ‘and’ let alone a paragraph and get out of school with a decent grade

He was editing for content and Ideology, I imagine.

This essay is all over the place. He seems to point out in the beginning where his thesis belongs, that tge campaign against Trump should be based on Trump’s character, his suggesting bleach as a good cure for Covid and Trump’s first presidency was simply a roller coaster ride.

I could not get too far- I sensed brainwashing as the real thesis in this documentary

He does not give an example of how Trump has a bad character as implied.

He does not take note that the bleach injection comment was a spitballing comment as no one in authority has a clue, on or that now many people including the AG of Kansas, are taking steps to fix the problems caused by the injections of something else

He does not tell us exactly what was perceived as roller coaster ride-like.

This is Biden campaign crap. It is erratic, pushy, unintelligible.

“...could be a real stumbling block as they try to galvanize voters to remember what Trump’s presidency was really like.”

I don’t really think the democrats want voters to remember what the Trump presidency was really like.

If Chuck U Todd actually believes what he is writing, then he is a bit more stupid than I thought.
