Virginia will get its chance to influence who is sent to the House of Representatives next year as voters cast their ballot in several high-profile primaries on Tuesday.
There are two open seats this fall due to the retirement of Democratic Reps. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Jennifer Wexton (D-VA), the first of which is seen as a key pickup opportunity for Republicans without an incumbent to run against. Meanwhile, Democrats will choose their nominee to challenge Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA) in a Biden-won district.
Voters will also have the opportunity to decide the fate of House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good (R-VA) as he faces a tough Trump-backed primary challenge that many of his Republican colleagues have endorsed to defeat him.
Here are four races to watch in Virginia as voters cast their ballots in the 2024 primary elections.

House Republicans are eyeing the seat being vacated by Spanberger as one of the best pickup opportunities of the 2024 cycle, increasing the pressure on Democrats as they look to choose their nominee on Tuesday.
Spanberger’s decision to run for governor leaves her seat open for the first time since she was elected in 2018. The seat is thought to lean Democratic, according to the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, and has attracted a crowded field of candidates vying to replace her.
Six Democrats are running for the party’s nomination in the primary, including Prince William County Supervisor Margaret Angela Franklin and Army veteran Eugene Vindman, who have emerged as the party’s front-runners.

Abigail Spanberger is one of the filthy CIA members of congress. Nite wants to be Governor.
Yep. It will be good to see Spanberger go. Hopefully, she will be soundly beaten in the race for governor and fade away to never be heard from again (more likely she will be on the board of Boeing or other such company or be the chair of some “save our Democracy” think-tank).
There is also this race:
“Democratic voters are set to choose their favored candidate to take on Kiggans in Virginia’s 2nd District, a swing seat that encompasses Virginia Beach and much of the surrounding area.
Kiggans flipped the seat into Republican control during the 2022 midterm elections, making her one of just 17 House Republicans seeking reelection in a district that was carried by President Joe Biden in 2020. The first-term incumbent is considered a top target for House Democrats as they attempt to win back control of the lower chamber.
Two Democrats will compete for the party’s nomination: Navy veteran Missy Cotter Smasal and Jake Denton, a constitutional and anti-defamation attorney. The district is rated R+2 and predicted to lean Republican, according to the Cook Political Report.”
Good is trailing McGuire 47% to 53%, with 93% reporting … Good is going to lose
“Looks like Vindman is going to win on the Rat side …”
That’s one race I’ll be watching and praying about come November. We know what Vindman is—a deep state worm. The last thing we need is him being in a representative seat. He will be there for 50 years until Satan takes him home and the amount of evil he can do will be enormous.
It’s rather interesting that 30 minutes ago, the Good v McGuire race in VA’s District 5 was reporting that 95% of the vote was counted. Then 20 minutes ago it was at 83%. It then dropped to 79% and now is at 73%.
How does the vote percentage go down by THAT much? Isn’t it pretty much known a few minutes after the polls close how many votes have been cast and thus know the percentage of the number of votes counted/not counted thus far?
In Georgia, Trump endorsed Brian Jack won Tuesday’s 3rd district GOP runoff in the heavily Republican district now represented by the retiring U.S. Rep. Drew Ferguson.
Ferguson announced last December he was retiring, leaving the west-central Georgia district the only open congressional seat in 2024. The district - which includes most of metro Atlanta’s southern suburbs and stretches southwestward to portions of Columbus — is heavily Republican, meaning Jack is a strong favorite to become the Peach State’s next congressman.
Jack is a former Donald Trump adviser, and the nation’s 45th president has already made a very public endorsement of his candidacy. Jack finished first in Georgia’s May 21 primary, and at one point was well above the 50%-plus-one margin to win the election outright.
But Dugan, an outgoing state senator from Carrollton and a former Senate majority leader, gained enough votes to make the runoff.
In Virginia, Trump-endorsed Hung Cao has won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and will face off against Tim Kaine in November.
It appears a few “adjustments” have been made. The total percentage is back up to 79% and Good has closed the gap and now is only behind by 1% (earlier before the “adjustments” he had been behind by almost 5%).
It looks like they are going take this win from McGuire and make sure Good keeps the seat. This is a taste of what we can look forward to in November.
Yeah - I started seeing those percents change and was wondering what’s going on ?
