While questions remain surrounding Oakland’s landmark sale of its undivided half of the Coliseum property to an all-Black private development group a little over two weeks ago, not just the stadium and arena are waiting for the Athletics to make a decision. The state of uncertainty is also affecting one of the most vital pieces surrounding the site: the Coliseum BART Station.
BART director Robert Raburn, whose jurisdiction includes the Coliseum Station, is one of many public officials in Oakland who are quite optimistic about what the African American Sports and Entertainment Group wants to do with the Coliseum site. In a phone call with SFGATE, Raburn said he is “very excited” about the AASEG’s goals of a mixed-use development on the property, with long-term sustainable jobs and the housing that is expected to come with them, which he described as “a catalyst that creates transformation connecting East Oakland all the way down to the Bay Shore.”
It’s a sentiment that’s been in the city’s public sector for at least five years now. Oakland City Council member at large Rebecca Kaplan, who is the chair of the Coliseum Authority, wrote in a 2019 op-ed, “This large, well-located expanse of public land can and should be used to provide development that benefits the community in multiple ways. … We can, and should, work toward a future for the site that provides local benefits, including housing at all income levels, jobs, recreation and health, including for our youth, tax revenue and revitalization.”
However, even after the sale to the African American Sports and Entertainment Group is finalized, the organization still has to negotiate with the Oakland Athletics, and owner John Fisher, for their half of the property to have full control of the Coliseum site.

The reason Oakland is such a failure as are many other large cities is Black people run them.
I don’t think there is much chance for success in Oakland.
I’ve spent many many weeks in Oakland.
>> sale of its undivided half of the Coliseum property to an all-Black private development group
Substitute “all-White private development group” and watch all hell break loose. ;-)
>> large cities... Black people run them
Should Black be capitalized?
Should White be capitalized? Or Asian? Or Jewish?
(I say, NO.)
isn't it cute when black people deny the existence of certain people of their own race, and they try and set up shop in the middle of the hood, expecting a pass because of their skin color, in the number of robberies and assaults?
You can't fix stupid, either you avoid it or kill it.
This could be a good thing for the community. Work with the owner John Fisher of half the property, for managing entertainment venues like concerts, street sideshow racing, boxing and fighting events, etc. Set up a flea market venue. Call the whole area Barter Town, so area residents can bring their shoplifted goods via BART trains and sell them. Have nearby lumber yards donate building materials, so residents can build extremely cheap housing. The area will be hopping with activity.
Hitler would have been proud and unstoppable if the German people had the loyalty blacks have for each other. Instead some Germans saw the evil in his plans and did everything they could to slow him down. Including assassination attempts.
Nothing good will come of that site. It’s impossible. No one wants to go there anymore.
Skip the teams and games, convert it to a prison. The local area needs a big one.
Get out A’s... Get out as fast as you can.
Oakland may just as well sink into the bay... There’s no future for anything good there.
Of the few who would want to go there many of them want to kill each other. It's just the America blacks way these days I guess.
Do it just for grins!
They’re going to. They’re going to play in West Sacramento, across the river from Sacramento, until their stadium in Las Vegas is built. Lots of excitement hereabouts. They’ll sell out every game
I’ve been to that site many times over the past few decades. Warriors, A’s, concerts. People have always been hesitant about that area. Now with the Warriors and Raiders gone, and soon the A’s as well, that whole area is just written off. What was always kind of shanky and questionable is now unthinkable.
It cracks me up that an ALL black org thinks they can make a go of that place. No way, somebody’s getting played, and somebody’s in for a rude awakening.
Asian and Jewish are proper nouns. They should be capitalized.
This is the finest example of what that place used to be.
