House Speaker Mike Johnson is probably breathing just a little easier this morning, as Republican Michael Rulli’s victory in Ohio’s 6th Congressional District Tuesday night gave him just a tad more breathing room in his narrow Republican House majority.
Rulli was widely expected to win, as former President Donald Trump won the 6th District by more than 30 points in the last two elections.
In fact, his 9-point margin on Tuesday was so much less than Trump’s that it was giving some Democrats cause for hope in November
...
Rulli will now serve out the remainder of former Rep. Bill Johnson’s term, who accepted the presidency of Youngstown State University last November and resigned his seat in Congress.
...
Rulli’s family established the Rulli Bros. grocery store in 1917 and continues to operate two locations in Ohio today, 107 years later.
Rulli will again face Democrat Michael Kripchak, an Air Force veteran and former actor, in November, as the two compete for a full term in the next Congress.
...
Once he is sworn in, Rulli, a former two-term Ohio senator, will bring the Republicans’ advantage in House up to six, 219-213. And six may not be much of a margin, but it’s inarguably better than five.

This helps with all the Rino’s jumping ship
Republicans generally suck at elections that aren’t on Election Day in November. Winning a district by 9% that Trump won by 30% may be a sign of that. Hopefully nothing more.

Trump’s margin in this district was no fluke; it really IS that Republican-leaning. Rulli’s performance yesterday was shockingly unimpressive, especially given that the Democrats spent pretty much $0 here.
Rulli did have a contentious primary slugfest not long ago and apparently there is still considerable bad blood on the GOP side.
Democrats can crow all they want about this outcome, but they still lost and they are going to lose in November too unless Rulli turns out to be another George Santos. And maybe even if he does.
The Rats are not likely to spend a dime trying to win in CD-6; as far as Ohio goes they *should* have their hands full simply trying to hold onto their 3 marginal seats (CD-1, CD-9, CD-13). They will probably succeed in doing so in at least 2 of the 3 districts, and probably all 3, since the Republicans at this point don’t seem to even be trying.
Good. Hope he makes it through November.

Off year elections are always less votes. Yes democrats have been turning out for these special elections lately but it’s been historically rare. We will keep the seat in November.

Absolutely. Republicans ‘hope’ people come out and vote, Democrats MAKE DAMN SURE that people come out and vote.
