A jury has awarded more than $1.1 million to an Idaho drag performer who accused a far-right blogger of defaming him when she falsely claimed that he exposed himself to a crowd, including children, during a Pride event in June 2022.
The Kootenai County District Court jury unanimously found Friday that Summer Bushnell defamed Post Falls resident Eric Posey when she posted a doctored video of his performance with a blurred spot that she claimed covered his “fully exposed genitals,” the Coeur D’Alene Press reported.
In reality the unedited video showed no indecent exposure, and prosecutors declined to file charges.
“The judicial system did what needed to be done,” Posey said after the verdict.
Jurors awarded Posey $926,000 in compensatory damages for defamation. Because Posey proved that Bushnell knew her allegations were false when she made them or that she made the accusations with reckless disregard for the truth, the jury awarded $250,000 in additional punitive damages.
Posey, who uses the stage name Mona Liza Million, performed three times at the Pride in the Park celebration wearing a long-sleeve leotard, black shorts and tights, with a shiny metallic boa around his waist. He did not remove clothing.

He can spend the money on a lot of mental health
Defamation is an intentional tort and so not dischargeable in bankruptcy. She did this to herself by posting a doctored photo. IMO, and I was a civil litigator for forty years, she’d have gotten off had she not done that.
Has there been any speculation as to whether Summer Bushnell can actually satisfy the judgement? Does Idaho have bankruptcy exemptions for primary homestead, etc?

Interestingly, the Northern Cheyenne Indian who wrote this article has a different take. Of course, he could just be another liberal projecting of current mores onto history...

There’s a very important lesson there for all of us, especially in these hyper-sensitive times.
The debtor could use Idaho's bankruptcy exemptions to protect certain assets like their home, vehicle, and retirement accounts from the judgment creditor. But the underlying defamation debt itself would generally survive the bankruptcy as a non-dischargeable intentional tort obligation.
“I believe homosexuals should be locked up in asylums as we normally did up until the 1960s.”
Where did you see that?
Who gets the money after they hang themselves?

One of them is don’t post someone else’s work unless it has been thoroughly vetted. Can still get away with it in the case of public figures, I guess.

Sue (what ever the preferred now is required) for freedom of speech.
If the D can have free actions/speech, so can others.
Can she appeal the amount of damages, I wonder?
Was the published information a known and demonstrable lie?
If it was then the blogger is not a victim.
A million dollar judgement against a nobody blogger with no ability to pay seems ridiculously out of line. Did the jury take a page from the E. Jean Carrol playbook re judgement of $83 million against President Trump?
Countless books and articles over many decades. I guess this is a topic you didn't have any interest in during your life.
Doing a quick search, it is clear that it has become increasingly difficult to find information about the criminalization and commitment to insane asylums which used to be the norm here in America. The search is polluted with countless pro-gay articles on the subject, and very little information for the actual history of putting homosexuals into insane asylums.
This stuff was not so hard to find 5 or 10 years ago, because I have discussed this topic for decades, and you could find it back then, but I guess all the pro-gay search engines are now filtering out most of those results.
But here is one that you can look at.

Also this.

“But here is one that you can look at”
Nothing about widespread institutionalizing.
“Also this.”
Sodomy laws not widely prosecuted. No issue till 80’s.
“I doubt the case was honest. The blogger was probably correct.”
The blogger admitted to using an edited video which misrepresented the performance.
Also, that performance was an over-21 performance and she spliced in videos of children at an unrelated function.
I guess you overlooked the part where I said its hard to find that information now. Everything has been gay washed to look differently.
But you don't have to take my word for it. Unless Google has pulled them, there are videos on Youtube where the state authorities (California, I think) are warning everyone to keep a watch out for homosexuals because they will kidnap and molest boys.
Somehow I don't think you are really interested in learning the truth on this topic. I think you just want to run interference for the opposition, which is what I usually see you doing.
Even if the blogger did everything with malicious intent, a million bucks jury award should get every juror involved beaten and sent to prison for contempt.
That is a disgusting and capricious award that does not even slightly resemble the "injury" asserted.
I perceive this as "virtue signaling" by people who want to show how non-racist and non-judgemental they are. I think modern juries are often filled with idiots who do not know right from wrong or morality from evil.
I suspect if this had been a white f@ggot, they would have likely gotten not much of anything. Just another example of how screwed up the legal system is.
