Russia not invited to D-Day 80th anniversary, French presidency says

Russia will not be invited to events marking the 80th anniversary of the Second World War's D-Day landings next week given its war of aggression against Ukraine, the French presidency said on Thursday.

Organisers had said in April that President Vladimir Putin would not be invited to the events in France, but that some Russian representatives would be welcome in recognition of the country's war-time sacrifice.

Prior to France's announcement on Thursday two diplomatic sources told Reuters that the Ukraine war and unease among some allies about Moscow's presence had led Paris to reverse its initial thinking. The commemorations will be attended by dozens of heads of state and government, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. President Joe Biden. Briefing reporters ahead of next Thursday's anniversary, a French presidency official confirmed Russia's absence and that Zelenskiy had been invited given his country's "just fight" in the war against Russia.

DDay was a success. It’s not like holding up Stalingrad or against Napoleon freed them up.

That seems petty. Russia’s historical contributions to WW2 should not be ignored because of current events.

When the Wall fell in ‘89, all the roaches scurried to Brussels.

Russia openly wants to wage war against Europe and they’re offended that they didn’t get invited to the D-Day observance?

Some days the comedy writes itself.

I agree. Maybe no Russian government officials. But how about a few representatives of Russian veterans organizations?

Agreed. Two weeks after D-Day, June 22nd, the Russians launched Operation Bagration in what is now Belarus and Lithuania. This operation pretty much destroyed three German armies on the eastern front.

I get it that they hold EU parliament elections right around D-Day.

A truly insulting comment that dishonors the 4,500 Americans who died that day.

‘That seems petty. Russia’s historical contributions to WW2 should not be ignored because of current events.”

It’s an Alinsky tactic, which is to ‘de-humanize’ your opponent. We see it here with the Democrat treatment of Trump, and the Zeeper treatment of those that oppose WW3.

FWIW, also on their side, the common Russian belief is that THEY defeated Nazi Germany. Given that 80% of German casualties were on the Eastern Front, I suppose they have a point

Very good.

He’s at war. His clothes are appropriate.

Without the Soviets, the best the Brits and the Yanks would have fought the war to a stalemate.

Must be time for another shopping spree now that we gave them another unknown billions to pad his wife’s purse.

The fact that that penis piano playing little Hitler is there to celebrate D-Day makes all the Americans spin in their graves. Ukraine was with the Nazis. Ukraine murdered Jews for the Nazis.
