Trump campaign sends vetting paperwork to possible 2024 VPs — here are the notable names

The Trump campaign has begun vetting vice presidential contenders for the former president — and several notable names are on his short-list, The Post has learned.

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Tim Scott (R-SC) have all recently exchanged varying degrees of vetting documents with Trump’s campaign, a source familiar told The Post Wednesday.

As have Reps. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Republican North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and former Trump administration Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, the source said.

...

A Trump campaign official told The Post that the 77-year-old former president has not settled on who he’ll tap to be on the ticket with him in November — or when he’ll make that decision.

...

Earlier this month, Trump indicated in an interview with News12 that his final decision on a running mate would come “probably not too much before” the start of the Republican National Convention, where he will be formally named the GOP nominee.

“...

“We have many people who would do a fantastic job,” [Trump said] ...

Carson - like Pence - is a boring snooze fest.

Trump needs to think outside the box this time with a veep.

No one on the Post’s list fills that bill, unfortunately.

“Donalds would do, but he is from Florida.”

New York jurors have voted to make Trump a NY resident again.

Donalds and DeSantis are VP possibilities due to Bragg and his jurors.

Trump has many great candidates to pick for VP. Who the hell do the Dems have when Biden is removed by the DNC to run for president? The DNC has no choice. They must remove Biden. I hope they fail. Oddly Kamala is less electable than Biden. If they remove Biden they must remove Kamala also and suffer the wrath of the black democrat voter that votes democrat regardless. However, Trump is winning over many black voters.

I think I hear the voice of Senator Chuck Schumer in the background saying, “Houston, we have a problem.”

The only one I see as credible is Governor Burgum but he really doesn't help Trump except as boring backup, somewhat like Pence in 2016.

Doug Burgum brings his massive billionaire warchest to the ticket.

Even after Trump's sizeable post-conviction money haul, Biden is still out raising him about 3-1, mostly from corporate donors.

55 posts before someone mentioned Bryon Donalds. He is forceful and articulates a practical conservative position most of the time. (Dare I say he is articulate and clean?)
He has shown some grit in house fights with Dem mouthpieces. He’d rip Kamela in a debate and stay after her on the campaign trail.

“FISA”

The ISPs keep track of every American on the web.

I’ve been cut off about five times in the last hour.

“Bryon Donalds”

Electors can’t choose a president and VP residing in the same state[Florida].

I am hoping Trump will not be a NY prison when the electors vote.

I'm on this Donalds thread where - believe it or not - 3-4 people agree with The Hill that Donalds stepped in it with his Jim Crow comments.

When in fact Donalds was so very correct.

Donalds suggests Black families were stronger during Jim Crow era

Biden is belligerent.

He and Jill will fight any attempt to retire him.

“ I’m still hoping for Vivek.”

That’s the name that is conspicuously absent. Must mean something.

I wouldn’t trust Stefanik as far as I could throw her. I’ve watched her votes, which is the only reason I call her a rino. She voted to fund the Ukraine war, she voted to keep illegal surveillance on Americans, she voted to keep the CRs going.....she’ll do a lot of grandstanding when needed, but her voting record is not MAGA.

See post #49. This time around, the VP pick is crucial. Someone who can step into the #1 slot if required, and can learn the ropes from President Trump and be ready for 2028. The only one who seems to understand the Constitution inside out, and who revels in going after the Deep State is Vivek.

I hope it means something.

I have a theory that Vivek was Trump’s VP plan a long time ago, and that the only reason for Vivek’s presidential run was to get him out there, get him known and liked, and then bow out at the first opportunity. It felt like a faux presidential run, and he bowed out so quickly, and didn’t seem terribly disappointed....it just made me suspicious.

I also noted that Vivek basically stood in for Trump at the debates. I called him Proxy Trump. He spoke beautifully and made the others look like the typical politicians that they were. Trump and Vivek did not attack each other, except a little ruse of a dust-up at the end.

One thing that really made me wonder was when I saw Lara Trump interview Vivek a few months back. She was very friendly and happy to talk to him, and as an introduction she laughingly pointed out that she was the one who knew Vivek first, a few years ago, and it was her that introduced him into the Trump family, and they are now all friends.

Well, if Vivek was a friend of the Trump family a couple of years ago, would not his run to primary Trump be seen as a bit of a slight against the president? No mention was ever made of this other than Lara’s remarks. I thought that was odd. However, if President Trump has known Vivek for a few years and wanted him as VP, how silly would it look for him to choose a virtual unknown as a VP? Yet, if Vivek were to actually run for president himself, he’d be well known and well liked.

I still hope it’s Vivek - and suspect it has been all along.
