Trump campaign sends vetting paperwork to possible 2024 VPs — here are the notable names

The Trump campaign has begun vetting vice presidential contenders for the former president — and several notable names are on his short-list, The Post has learned.

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) and Tim Scott (R-SC) have all recently exchanged varying degrees of vetting documents with Trump’s campaign, a source familiar told The Post Wednesday.

As have Reps. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Republican North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and former Trump administration Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, the source said.

...

A Trump campaign official told The Post that the 77-year-old former president has not settled on who he’ll tap to be on the ticket with him in November — or when he’ll make that decision.

...

Earlier this month, Trump indicated in an interview with News12 that his final decision on a running mate would come “probably not too much before” the start of the Republican National Convention, where he will be formally named the GOP nominee.

“...

“We have many people who would do a fantastic job,” [Trump said] ...

Put me on the record for Stefanik.

She’s a fighter.

Trump can take back the White House, but it doesn’t mean that he and his administration will not be in a knock down drag out fight every day he is in office.

She’s thrown some elbows when and where elbows need to be thrown.

Normally I might hold it against her that she’s from New York.

Upstate New York is a different country compared to NYC.

I do know that Scott is black. And I like him as a senator. I don’t think he would swing many black voters. And, Trump is a lock to win South Carolina. Let’s keep Tim in the Senate where he can do more good.

He should go after the (REAL) Amish/Mennonite vote. They might make an exception to their no voting dogma after Pedo Joe is having the FDA raid their farms.

We desperately need her to stay in NY.

Let’s keep Tim in the Senate where he can do more good.

No argument, but the same is said about every potential....

Let’s keep ____ in the ______ where he/she can do more good.

What I learned in 2016.

NEVER check boxes on appointments and nominees.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER trust a senator as EVERY single senator from either so-called opposition party is SNAKE and a TRAITOR.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

Little Beauregard Sessions checked EVERY conservative box.

Yet once inside the Trump’s tent, he was the FIRST to stab Trump in the back.

I sometimes think that may be Krispy Kreme Kristy would have been a better attorney general.

The fat boy checked few if any conservative boxes.

He was full of himself among other things that he was full of.

But the fat boy had an attitude and I don’t think he would have been pushed around without putting up a fight like Little Beauregard did.

Point is, Krispy Kreme could not have been a worse AG than Little Beauregard who threw Trump to the Deep State wolves from the git-go.

What went wrong with Little Beauregard?

NO distinction can be made between the Senate and the swamp.

The Senate is 100% swamp.

Obviously Little Beauregard’s allegiance to the swamp was not apparent as he talked the talk of a “rock-ribbed” conservative as the clowns on Faux News would so often describe the crossdressing RINOs.

I can look at Stefanik’s record and nit pick.

But I don’t think she can be pushed around as easily as the others mentioned.

Given a choice, I’d rather have a house member than a senator although Trump was surely let down by Meadows and Mulvaney when he put them into his administration.

Vance terrifies me.

He not only is a senator but has been DEEP STATE indoctrinated at Yale.

Every time I look up a Deep Stater, it seems Yale is a common denominator.

Not only that Vance converted to Catholicism. Not that being a Catholic is a deal killer, but I keep thinking about adults who have converted to Catholicism and I keep thinking about Jeb Bush who was a sellout in every thing he ever did.

There is NO litmus test for being an America First Trumpster.

And if there were, nobody now holding office in either wing of the Uniparty would pass it.

I’ll go with Stefanik, not because of the boxes that she checks as much as the boxes that she doesn’t check.

If she were a dog, I’d say she got more fight in her than poodles like Little Marco or Tiny Tim Scott who have “learned” the decorum of the senate.

I am starting to gain respect for the wacko Fetterman who is starting to go against his party establishment.

NO CHANCE in hell, Little Marco or Tiny Tim or Vance would EVER go against the party establishment.

Yes, I think Christie has gotten a bad rap. He's the type of bulldog we need in DOJ or FBI. I don't know who has the gravitas to pull it off. Maybe Paxton? Abbott for DHS. I cannot see Trump picking any senator for any role. Too few in the Senate and they are all talk, no action, many have no work history.

I think the VP has to be a governor or someone that can help Trump, be a backup for 4-years, not further. I see DeSantis in 2028 if he can loosen up. He's consistently more MAGA thank 99% of the rest and his track record is phenomenal. He'd be a great VP now except at the cost of losing Florida electoral votes.

Burgum is steady, less nich than Pence, definitely a better choice. Sanders is loyal to Trump, now has experience as governor. 100% better positioned, qualified, and ready than Palin years ago. Youngkin is sleeper, but doesn't offer much.

I still think Trump will pick someone like Gabbard, who helps him--former Dem like Trump, a moderate like Trump, a veteran unlike all the others, a woman, a person of color, well spoken, fits the type of attractive women Trump likes to surround himself with, helps now but has no path in 2028.

I believe Youngkin is term limited as Governor. He’s leaving anyway. Let’s make it a move up to VP
