Russia will work with any US president, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during his conversation with the heads of international news agencies on the sidelines of the 27th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

On Wednesday, President Putin holds a conversation with the heads of major international news agencies on the sidelines of the 27th Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), including with representatives of unfriendly countries.
"For us, the end result, we believe, does not matter much. Russia will work with any US president, who will be elected by the American people," he said.
Russia has not and will not interfere in the US political process, Putin said, adding that the US is “burning itself” from the inside in the course of its internal political struggles.

without Biden in office, the invasion of Ukraine would not have occurred. And with Biden gone, Putin would be facing a more dangerous opponent to Putin’s invasion, if that foe were to be Trump.
No doubt, Putin is working behind the scenes to make sure Biden wins again, but mostly to make sure Trump does not get back as president.

I think this signals his desire is to take the whole of Ukraine. As long as he is willing to keep warring neither Biden nor Trump can stop him short of directly involving NATO, which neither is likely to do. If he wanted to negotiate a peace that allowed him to stop fighting and keep what he has taken I would think he would want Trump in office. If Putin truly doesn’t care it means he is set on option A.

The smartest move would be for the US President to stop the war, which would leave current territorial gains by Russia intact.
Trump would stop the war, stop the funding for Ukraine, and Putin would have what he set out to get, i.e., territory that was once Russian.
Putin would also like an end to an unpopular war back home, and to stop spending resources on this completely unnecessary and expensive quagmire.
And to reopen the sale of energy to Germany, et al.
If the democrats win in November then the US restart of the Cold War becomes permanent, not a desirable outcome for anyone, certainly not for Vladimir.
Declaring neutrality may be the smart move for Russia, but odds are that another Trump administration is a more palatable and prosperous outcome for Putin.
