Rand Paul sets standards Trump has to meet to earn endorsement
Washington Examiner ^ | June 4, 2024 | Luke Gentile

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) listed a set of standards former President Donald Trump has to meet before he takes an active role and endorses the presumptive GOP nominee.

“When we have agreed, I’ve been very supportive. When we have disagreed, I’ve also disagreed with him,” Paul said in an interview with Spectrum News.

Before Paul can endorse Trump, the latter needs to be more outspoken on issues the Kentucky senator deems critical, he said.

“I think that it’s important that if he wants to get my vote and my support, wants me to be more active in this, that he’s gonna have to be more vocal on things like the lockdowns that I opposed, like the civil liberties abuses that I opposed, like the debt, which frankly has been bad under Republicans and Democrats,” according to Paul.

“So, I’m looking for a little bit more before I make a final decision.”

This a liberal tactic to demand perfectionism among conservatives for somebody to be the choice.

Trump’s record shows that he meets a good standard in my books.

Typical Rand Paul behavior. He’s more than willing to sacrifice results in the name of ideological purity.

I respect what he’s asking but frankly it’s not politically reasonable and there is too much at stake.

To be fair, Rand will probably end up endorsing him. He’s probably just trying to bargain with Trump for something before he does so. I doubt Trump is going to make any significant policy changes to get Rand’s endorsement, but he may throw him a bone to stroke his inflated ego.

Who would he endorse instead of Trump? Maybe he will write in his own name.

There’s not too much at stake. Trump went to the Libertarian convention and challenged them to vote in their best interests. Rand is a libertarian who is playing Kabuki with Trump. Can Trump put him on the ticket and all is well? Rand doesn’t want to appear beholden. Challenge the rank and file libertarians but not Rand. Something tells me the 2 will make strange bedfellows even though they’re different. What’s Rand’s alternative?

I for one wouldn’t give a tinker’s darn whether Paul endorses Trump or not. He’d bring along maybe half of that 0.1% of the electorate that calls itself “libertarians”. Trump has much bigger fish to fry.

EARN HIS ENDORSEMENT! Piss off Rand, Trump is facing jail time for us, while you pontificate in your Senate office.

LOL!! You mean like turning tail on January 6th, when you said you were going to reject Biden’s electors, then came back after the break and voted to accept them? That kind of standard Rand?

You mean the same Libertarians who nominated a gay fruitcake as their
Nominee at their convention.
Maybe that is who Paul will endorse. The Gay Fruit Cake.

Trump should endorse him for speaker to replace McConnell.

Rand Paul would be good for Speaker. Trump should push this, they might not see eye-to-eye, but I think Paul would shake up the Senate more than any other replacement. It'd be a good play for Libertarian votes as well.

Who in house to replace Johnson?

Paxton for AG?

Abbott for DHS?

Vivek as ambassador to the Vatican or maybe Antarctica.

VP? Maybe Sanders. I suspect, though not supporting, I think Gabbard is still likely.

“Trump’s record shows that he meets a good standard in my books.”

I am at amazement that Bland Paul can come up with something that Trump hasn’t already done or was cut short of getting done by congress:

https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/trump-administration-accomplishments/

The only things left are the later screwups congress, both parties, have succeeded in creating during the Biden time frame that Trump hasn’t been given an opportunity to address. (Even though he was probably blamed for them) And an opportunty to finish the tasks he was undercut on like the southern border and the investigation of both the Ukraine and China we now know are trying to dominate everyone. (And Biden’s helping)

He won’t. The libertarians need too be cut down a notch. They’ve cost the republicans more than a few house and senate seats. Rand is not dumb but the party is. GOP too.

So with Rand Paul, it’s all or nothing for him with Trump? I agree those issues that Paul cites are serious and need to be addressed but he knows how DC works. Trump has to be the President again first in order for him to address those issues. Trump is no dummy, I trust if he is not currently beating the drum on those issues, that doesn’t mean that he’s not going to do something about them at first chance.
