"Companies were seized, assets were frozen and lives were upended" as a result of misconduct by prosecutors for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, a federal judge said while dismissing a civil fraud case against Utah cryptocurrency brokers and awarding the brokers $1.8 million in attorney fees. U.S. Chief District Judge Robert Shelby upbraided the commission, saying it recklessly used "layers of false statements" in a "gross abuse of power," saying their misrepresentations were "deeply troubling" and undermined the integrity of the judicial process, before dismissing its case May 28 and ordering payment of fees that will ultimately be financed by taxpayers

The SEC guys will get promoted, and the taxpayers will pick up the tab.

Cool. Do NYC and Fulton County, GA next for the same kind of abuse of power and authority.

Boy oh boy, has there EVER been a case where the SEC not just lost, but had to pay sanctions? I can’t recall one.

I guess in this case, the SEC just didn’t mean more.

The persecutors need to be sanctioned personally to the tune of a couple hundred thou themselves and disbarred, then tossed in the grey-bar motel for 5 years. Just as the Ted Stevens persecutors should have been, but weren’t.

The administrative staff needs to be paying the damages from their own purses and retirement accounts.

The US is meant to be pillaged, by the people who control the government agencies. Isn't that why they were created?

Public execution is an appropriate punishment, but that isn't going to happen.

I believe government authorities need to be held personally accountable for such crimes—and that all such crimes be made criminal with the potential of the death penalty.

Make them suffer to death.

I’m thinking the Obama-appointed judge doesn’t want the SEC interfering with the crypto financing of Dims like Sam Bankman-Fried did (founder of FTX).

Exactly. Those in the SEC who committed the malfeasance need to be prosecuted for it.

Prosecution and imprisonment. If someone opposing ANY Federal agency, that is what (s)he would be facing

—”has there EVER been a case where the SEC not just lost, but had to pay sanctions?”

About once a week in the Chicago summer, Joe Friday returns fire sometimes striking the purp, sometimes Joe Friday is wounded or worse.

Always the copper is suspended pending investigation...

even ones wounded by the purp and all recorded.

The perp usually wins the ghetto lottery $$$.

The cop is screwed even if his every move is recorded and by the book.

Like the SEC the Civilian Office of Police Accountability board always wins, always.

IMO public caning should be the order of the day for errant government employees.

Exhibit #8479631 from the high end of Chiraq.

—”The non-demonized yutes beat the husband pretty extensively, then caught the wife and beat her badly enough that she ended up miscarrying her pregnancy.

Crimesha (COOK COUNTY States Attorney) refused felony charges so only misdemeanor charges were lodged and as far as we can tell, no one remained in custody for more than a few minutes.”

The judge is allowing the SEC to refile the underlying charges.

True, they can refile but he will be the judge in any refiling of the case....and he’s seen them lying and engaging in all kinds of misconduct once already so he’s not likely to trust them at all.
