As my colleague Bonchie covered, college basketball phenom Caitlin Clark is receiving a rough welcome to the WNBA. She’s been receiving hard—dangerous—fouls at an alarming rate.
Why? You be the judge. But it certainly seems like jealousy and resentment are the driving forces behind much of the hate she’s received.
She’s deserving of her accolades; this is not someone who’s getting attention just for her looks or for her social media profile—she’s the real deal:
Top-seeded Iowa, which reached the NCAA title game for the second consecutive season, ended the season at 34-5. Clark finished with 30 points Sunday - scoring 18 in the first quarter, the most in a period in a national championship game. She ends her career with 3,951 points. She averaged 31.6 PPG this season and 28.4 over 139 career games.Clark's season has included milestones and broken records.
In a 17-day span from Feb. 15 to March 3, Clark broke Kelsey Plum's record to become the all-time women's NCAA Division I scoring leader, passed AIAW legend Lynette Woodard for the major college scoring record, and passed LSU legend Pete Maravich for most career points in Division I history for men and women.
But is this basketball or something far uglier?
Former Los Angeles Laker Matt Barnes—no stranger to controversy himself—is calling out the discrimination in no uncertain terms. Where the heck are her teammates, Barnes wants to know (warning: graphic language):
Why isn’t her club protecting her? Barnes:
I mean, throughout the season she's been getting beat up. Hard screens, elbows knocked down. It is what it is. She's not the first. She won't be the last. My issue and my question is where the **** are her teammates at?Where y'all at—where the rest of the Indiana fever at?
The whole Caitlin Clark controversy has been an ugly thing to watch unfold. She is a generational basketball player, one of the best to ever play the game, yet her success has brought out the racists and the dividers as they try to tear her down. What should be a great moment for the WNBA has proven to divide people:
Barnes is appalled:
I’ve seen a couple of girls smirk when she’s got knocked down, half-ass to pick her up. Like, y’all supposed to protect the asset, protect the star. And although this is a team, you always protect your star. I was someone who protected the stars. You f–k with Kobe, [Chris Paul], Blake [Griffin], the list goes on, it’s going to be a problem...
Barnes sums up his rant succinctly:
Got to do better, ladies.
He’s absolutely right. The WNBA, never a popular league, may just be watching its hope of relevancy circling the drain. Clark deserves to be challenged, just like any new player, but what we're seeing is way beyond the pale.
Unimportant drivel.
“…and passed LSU legend Pete Maravich for most career points in Division I history for men and women.”
They gotta stop this bullshit, it’s really stupid.
“In tonight’s game she scored just 3 points.”
It will take time for her to settle in. Once the Clark experience fades, she will be okay.
With all the concessions made to the WNBA over the years to me. It’s a very obvious this is a comparison of the different races side-by-side.
Our world for many reasons has developed this terrible thing between the races so it’s impossible to talk about the incredible record of this one individual because she’s white and straight .
Someday I pray that things will change and we can live in harmony, but seeing the way that other players are treating her, they just hate : none of those people live through slavery. Every walk of life has its difficulties that’s part of life
Keep praying for our world for Trump for this situation for many other things. It’s up to us to kick out evil. God‘s not gonna do it for us.
Our BB team in 76 was undefeated. The violence under the boards was intimidating as hell.absolutely nothing like today.
I have NEVER seen such humongous neck muscles on such a thick neck on any woman in my life.
From the back, he -I mean ‘she’ looks like a dude. As a woman, I recognize a woman- even if they are trying to be men. I don’t see a woman in CC.
Maybe there is some medical issue, some hormone issue, I don’t know. I don’t wish any bad on CC but those black players know sumpin’ sumpin’ is up and they ain’t playin’ along. Good for them.
:: a few companies who would buy into a non Thugette league ::
A league of one team?
“ because they’re a bunch of ….”
(Insert Don Imus quote here)
You would think they would be happy their sport is getting some needed attention.
Superstars bring in the money.
Race Trumps teamwork. Race usually trumps everything. And nobody hates white women more than black women.
Envy is a driving emotion of most women, and they can be extremely vicious in its acting out.
Fun fact: Caitlin was the star player on a boys’ team. Dad says he just couldn’t find a girls’ team at the time. Maybe CC’s just that good, or maybe it’s Maybelline.
If she can’t take what the WNBA “ladies” are dishing out, she’d likely have had a harder time playing coed.
Agreed. I thought the quotes from the article were spot on until I got the one that referred to the players as “ladies “.
And perhaps this should be seen as a test case to show us that women on the front lines is a bad idea for the military.
White and “CIS”:

Why? Don't play naive...you KNOW why.
Maybe she did so on purpose to send a message to her teammates.
The dirty secret is finally coming out. The reason blacks dominate sports like football and basketball is because a large portion of them use intimidation tactics starting at an early age. While white kids were being taught to not make waves and just get along, black kids were taught to stand their ground and gang together when facing their common white enemy. Talented white kids who just wanting to play a game and have fun are subjected to taunts and threats. “Why you here white boy. This is our game. White kids can’t jump.” Most white kids simply don’t want the hassle or legitimately fear for their safety, so they move on to other sports like lacrosse or just quit altogether.
That’s the reason the vast majority of white athletes in college and the pros come from regions of the country that are predominantly white. Places like Iowa and Nebraska. They aren’t subjected to that crap as kids. They have a chance to develop skills and grow into competitors. When/if they finally make it to the NBA, WNBA, NFL, etc., they suddenly learn the truth about the tribe mentality.
Just like Caitland Clark.
No one will ever convince me that the reason blacks dominate those sports is because they, as a group, are better athletes. There’s no way 10 percent of the population should produce 90 percent of the players. Or to say it another way, there’s no good reason why the white population doesn’t produce the vast majority of professionals. It’s not a lack of raw talent and potential. It’s a lack of desire to put up with racist BS and intimidation.
I too tripped over the reference in the article to the “ladies” of the WNBA. Most of them are about as ladylike as a crowbar.
“And nobody hates white women more than black women”
That’s because most black men seem to prefer white women over black women. On the scale of “most preferred female type to date,” black women are at the very bottom of the black man’s scale. They end up resenting everybody involved, even themselves.
