China says its uncrewed craft has successfully landed on the far side of the Moon - an unexplored place almost no-one tries to go.
The Chang'e 6 touched down in the South Pole-Aitken Basin at 06:23 Beijing time on Sunday morning (22:23 GMT Saturday), the China National Space Administration (CNSA) said.
Launched on 3 May, the mission aims to collect precious rock and soil from this region for the first time in history.
The probe could extract some of the Moon's oldest rocks from a huge crater on its South Pole.

Exactly!
I think we’re neighbors!
Two craters away.
My favorite PF! Still a classic!

It’s funny how people’s taste in music differs. I can’t stand the album. Probably partially cause classic rock radio played it to death. The only Floyd albums I like are the first two, trippy, psychedelic ones with Syd Barrett.
There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it’s all dark.
I don’t know, I was really drunk at the time.
Humans will be long extinct before then.
But Christ will return long before humans go extinct.
So I still don't see the point of going to the moon just because the sun will be too hot in a few hundred million years.
Okay, let me rephrase.
Interplanetary travel is pointless.
Earth First! We’ll mine the other planets later!
...and Gary Larson is not amused.
99% you're correct.
But there's 1% chance Elon Musk may turn out to be right. Let's find out.
“China says”
Landing on the far side is one thing but the remarkable thing is they landed near the south pole which seems to have a curse, everyone keeps losing their probes when the south pole is the target.
I can see China expanding its moon base(s) to all the BRICS countries. Imagine a low G laboratory on the moon. China would suddenly be the leader of all space tech.
It’s not dark over there all the time.
For example, think about this for a second.
How do we get partial moon lighting on earth? Monthly cycles of the moon.
The sun is lighting up the other side of the moon from us.
Think about a solar eclipse. FULL illumination of the other side of the moon. None for us.
No pics?
It didn’t happen!
“So I still don’t see the point of going to the moon just because the sun will be too hot in a few hundred million years.”
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
It’s not dark over there all the time.

God, I didn’t think I had to add a sarcasm tag. Wasn’t it obvious with my comment about the NASA administrator.
