The Minneapolis police officer gunned down in an ambush-style attack was killed while trying to help the suspect, who initially pretended to be a victim in need of help during Thursday’s mass shooting, according to officials.
Officer Jamal Mitchell, 28, responded to a reported shooting inside an apartment in the city’s trendy Whittier neighborhood and ran out of his car to aid the shooting victims, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans said in a press conference late Thursday.
But the man he had he was rushing to help wound up being the suspect, who fatally shot the “courageous hero” who was only trying to help.

I made a lot of business trips to Minneapolis in the 80s and it was a nice place back then. What a difference 40 years makes.
Just another gang beef mischaracterized as a mass shooting. The Vegas incident was a mass shooting. This is clearly something else.
Condolences To Jamaal Mitchell’s family and friends,
(any name or background of the deceptive murderer?)
Minneapolis was a bad spot in the later 90s, during my visits there.
St. Paul was decent, though.
Thankfully the killer won’t be executed...because that would be *cruel*.
And the T-Wolves suck.
The death penalty needs to be brought back.
Good and hard.
Din du.
Minneapolis has no “hero” cops anymore.
I was reading articles this morning trying to find the name of the suspect. One said the police know who the suspect is but no one is reporting the name.
If the cop were white, I doubt they would have used the word “hero”.
The Dems screw up everything. It’s just what they do. Didn’t we all have that friend back in the day who thought it was a good idea to something crazy after a few drinks. And, thankfully we were there to talk him (or her) down from their crazy plans. To me the Dems are like that crazy friend that no one talked down.
When the Dems said, “I know...let’s get rid of the police and hire social workers because police are bad, mean, and terrible people.” There was no one there to say, “That’s the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard in my life!” So, now Minneapolis has what they have. I hope they are enjoying it. Thoughts and prayers to the officers family.
What do you think “Build Back Better” meant?
Joe is here to destroy.
Yes, I worked in Minneapolis for John Morrell in the late 80’s and it was still pretty decent. That being said, it was just beginning to show a bit of fraying around the edges. Parts of Hennepin Ave were best avoided.
Took my wife to see her first Major League baseball game at the Metrodome where she watched Kirby Puckett hit a 3 run homer.
“A second officer then exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who was shot dead at the scene.”
They should have let everyone with a badge line up and do a mag dump on his dead ass. That would send a message if it was gang thing.

Really sad but welcome to Coldifornia.
“Minneapolis is a crap hole.”
I agree 1,000%.
Just got back home to Montana after spending four days with Mrs. BBB333’s folks in the Twin Cities.
So sorry for this good man and his family...
I live in the Peoples Republic of Minnesota. While outside of the Minneapolis /St Paul metro area, Minnesota is a nice place with strong conservative values. Unfortunately the leftist metro area now has exceeded the population of outstate Minnesota, an area disparagingly called by our governor as a place with more rocks and cows than people. This population dominance has placed state government in the hands of leftists who want to transform the state into something resembling west coast leftist hellholes. Minneapolis has become a lawless dung heap after a successful campaign to defund the police following St. George Floyd’s demise from fentanyl.
I grieve for the family of this police officer, who gave his life to keep us safe. However, I expect the murders and killing of police officers will become more common in the Twin Cities turning it into another Chicago or Portland. I think those in outstate Minnesota should follow the lead of eastern Washington and seek to change the state borders and become parts of North or South Dakota
