Prosecution closing arguments went on for hours and hours and hours. This must have irritated the heck out of the jury. Not a sign of confidence in their case. Jury instructions begin at 10 am ET. Thoughts?
The draft Jury Instructions were so drawn out and convoluted that if the final version is similar, I think most jurors will be flummoxed and give up with headaches. Those possessed of logic and integrity will decide that if they can’t penetrate the fog bank the State has put up in lieu of a case, there has to be reasonable doubt.
Trump-haters will think “to hell with this brain-eating mess, it’s my chance to stick it to the bastid”, plus some channeling of Slim Pickens riding the A-bomb down in Dr. Strangelove (”We didn’t come all this way just to put ‘er in the drink”.) Others might be royally pissed that the State stole their time pushing drivel for political purposes.
If the two lawyers or anyone else claims to understand the case, it could pull in those who don’t. No way to predict the verdict.
The purpose of a show trial is to frighten citizens into believing this could happen to them.
That’s the underlying goal of Biden’s goons and thugs - all of this appears intentional.
DUH, I hope they aren't that stupid, sheesh.
FECA is not a state issue.
Actually, Merchan makes Ito look like SCOTUS material lol!
Then again, it’s a Manhattan jury ;-)
Guilty in 10 minutes.
I think Ito was simply unprepared for the circus the trial became and may have felt or been threatened.
Merchan, with the backing of the Democrat Party, has an agenda and probably a desire to make history. He’s delusional, though, if he thinks the way he prosecuted the trial isn’t a swiss cheese of judicial bias/errors that can stand up to appeals court scrutiny, especially if SCOTUS gets involved.
There is a good chance they will convict notwithstanding the flimsy charges. What the Jury heard and saw was all carefully managed by the Judge, who clearly is biased.
All the counterarguments we have seen in the press (”what law was broken?” and “there is no evidence”) is outside their experience.
Then there will be an appeal. If appealed via NY courts, will not go well and will take forever. I’ve read there is a way to go directly to SCOTUS but am skeptical. SCOTUS has been reluctant to step in to so many controversial topics outside the normal (multi-year) appellate process.
So, at the election - they will all yell “He is a convicted Felon” and we will all rebut with - “so what? It will be reversed on appeal”. Not sure there is advantage to either side.
Of course an acquittal (don’t see that happening) would be glorious, but hung jury would be enough for now.
Jury will NOT be given copy of instructions. Can request it to be read to them.
That’s normal.
It wasn’t me who sent that tweet to him ... I promise 😬
“FECA is not a state issue.”
Please point me to anything other than speculation that says it has to be.
One major concern, and strong reason for appeal is the judge said the second crime could be one of three. If the jury thinks any one of those three are true, ( they would place any one of those three in the same catagory)
The stakes are astronomical for both sides in this show trial. If Trump is acquitted, his election becomes much more likely--and possibly assured.
...After the federal election violation, Merchan says that the second crime is falsifying other documents. This creates a redundancy with the NY election violation on the falsifying documents. It allows the government to allege the falsification of documents as a felony and then allows such falsification to be also the unlawful means for certain documents. The third is the violation of tax law

The evidence before the court is incontrovertible.
There's no need for the jury to retire.
In all my years of judging, I have never heard before
Of someone more deserving of the full penalty of law.

An appeal will be granted for numerous reasons. But they want a conviction now for political purposes.
The Democrats need to protect Jusge Merchan because they will need him for P. diddy they may need to cut the cord with Biden to save a corrupt judge.
I hope the actual jury instructions are posted on-line for all to read
The multiple choice felony can get him 4 years in prison.
