A U.S. military-built pier off Gaza’s coast is being temporarily removed after a part of the structure broke off, the Pentagon said on Tuesday, in the latest blow to efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

The pier was announced by U.S. President Joe Biden in March and involved the military assembling the floating structure off the coast. Estimated to cost $320 million for the first 90 days and involve about 1,000 U.S. service members, it went into operation two weeks ago.

A third of a billion dollars. One thousand men. And it's a colossal failure.

Compare to Mulberry Harbor on the coast of France, 1944, built under much tougher conditions.

The Mulberry artificial harbour off Arromanches in Normandy, September 1944. An aerial oblique photograph of the Mulberry Harbour off Arromanches. Artificial harbours were constructed along the beach shortly after D-Day so that armoured vehicles and heavy guns could be landed.

Right? It’s being “removed” by floating away and sinking. Great job Brandon!

The US should air drop humanitarian aid within range of Israeli snipers so when Hamas tries to steal the supplies they can meet allah.

“Every day, significant amounts of aid are entering Gaza. Israel continues to open new entry points for aid into Gaza by land, air and sea. According to U.N. data, an average of 70 food trucks entered Gaza per day before the war; an average of more than 100 food trucks have entered each day in March — May 8, 2024”

So, the US got 1.33 days’ worth of food over the course of how long? [Maybe 12 days?] before the pier started to break...

Hopefully this inane (and very dangerous) pier disappears from sight.

Two weeks and it's a complete disaster already. Proves what they say about not wanting a DEI graduate to build a bridge for you and the military is all about DEI under the Biden regime.

It won't take a Tsunami. Apparently the pier and causeway are only capable of operating in 3 foot seas. The 4.5 foot seas the other day caused it to fail.

For one tenth of the cost somebody could have pushed rubble and dirt into the sea and built a permanent pier and breakwater.

The whole idea was idiotic, and probably something somebody in the White House concocted.

I think you’re off by an order of magnitude. It’s $2.3 million per truck. I know, I know, a million here, a million there . . . .

He WAS resupplying Hamas until this sunk. IIRC 90% of those 137 truckloads were stolen by Hamas.
