COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda secured a second five-year term as Lithuanian president in a landslide victory over Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte.
Preliminary figures by the Lithuania´s Central Electoral Commission showed that Nauseda won 74.5% of the votes and Simonyte 24.1%.
The 60-year-old Nauseda is a moderate conservative and has been a strong backer of Ukraine, a position shared across most of the political spectrum. During his time in office, Lithuania has also given refuge to many who have fled an authoritarian crackdown in neighboring Belarus and increased repression in Russia.

“I know nothing about this guy.”
Likely another Soros boot licker, but who knows, maybe we’ll get surprised.

They’ve been fooled into believing that they’ll be more free under the EU/NATO orbit than the the Russian orbit.
“They’ve been fooled into believing that they’ll be more free under the EU/NATO orbit than the the Russian orbit.”
They just see the EU as a way to get up to Western living standards, what they ignore is the PRICE that the EU demands...which is TOTAL SUBSERVIENCE to EU dictates, including priority items like sexualizing kids, population replacement, etc...stuff that Russia NEVER imposes on its friends.
Like Hungary, they’ll eventually understand the downside, but once in, it’s very hard to get out.

Nauseda; As an independent, he supports issues across the political spectrum
Snip...
"Nauseda's views on the economy are actually left wing and he advocates a welfare state. But when it comes to morality, he is more to the right," said Vilpisauskas. Catholic and anti-LGBTQ
Nauseda holds conservative Catholic views on abortion and LGBTQ+ issues. When representatives of the coalition parties introduced a bill on same-sex partnerships to parliament a few years ago, they met with protest from parts of the population. Nauseda supported the opponents, albeit cautiously.
Critics have said Nauseda has kept that issue off the agenda for many years. "If it comes up again, Nauseda will seek a compromise, but we can't expect him to make any concessions," said Bielinis.
Polls predict that the ruling alliance of conservatives and liberals will be defeated in parliamentary elections this fall, with a new coalition of social democrats and the conservative-green Farmers and Greens Union taking power.
Observers believe Nauseda will more easily find common ground with these lawmakers on economic and social issues. Unlike most European social democratic parties, Lithuanian social democrats and farmers are quite conservative in their views on morality. Warsaw is closer than Brussels
In Lithuania, the prime minister administers domestic policy, while the president deals with foreign affairs. Both politicians and the public largely agree that Russian President Vladimir Putin and China are enemies, that the United States is the country's most important ally and that NATO membership guarantees security. Since the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia eight years later, support for Kyiv has been a cross-party consensus issue in Lithuanian politics." ... snip

If he were here he would probably be a Moderate Republican who supports social services under investigation by the FBI for his "Hateful LGBT views as a radical Catholic Nationalist" or something along these lines. (If you find those Geo. Soros links post them!!)
But they’ll reign him in, just as they have recently in Poland. That is the price of being controlled by Brussels.
Tusk didn’t have to be ‘reigned in’.
He’s been president 5 years. If we haven’t heard any negativity yet, we probably won’t.

Showing you know nothing about Lithuania or Lithuanians.
“They’ve been fooled into believing that they’ll be more free under the EU/NATO orbit than the the Russian orbit.”
Wrong. They know that they are “under” no one in NATO. You know nothing of them or their history.
“Showing you know nothing about Lithuania or Lithuanians.”
Whatever, that’s why I said ‘likely’. In any case, he’s aligned on the most important issue in Europe, which is getting World War 3 started.
About Warsaw...
US culture is destroying Poland.
However, I note that map shows “Roman Catholics”.
I am sure a lot of religious Poles are none too happy with Bergoglio.
Sounds like a good guy...
Political ideology is entirely too complex and nuanced to be reduced to a one-dimensional linear construct.
Anybody who claims he can tell you exactly where someone lies politically in simplistic terms of left-and-right is either politically ignorant or trying to blow smoke up your skirt or both.
“Whatever, that’s why I said ‘likely’. In any case, he’s aligned on the most important issue in Europe, which is getting World War 3 started.”
Nonsense. If ANYONE has been trying to get WWIII started it is Vladamir Putin.
