If some California legislators have their way, your car could soon scold you if you exceed the speed limit. On Tuesday, the state Senate passed SB 961, a bill sponsored by Sen. Scott Wiener. The bill requires passive speed governors to be added to all new cars manufactured or sold in California by 2032. Speed governors would alert drivers with “audible and visual signals when they exceed the speed limit by greater than 10 miles per hour,” a press release from Wiener’s office said.

By finding its location on a map of speed limits. And services like Waze send out temporary speed restriction information via cell network.
If you think you're off the hook because you don't live in California, think again.
These will be on ALL cars. Automakers comply with California standards for everything marketed for the United States. The California market is huge and it isn't cost-effective to make "non-California" cars.
California residents are like kids with an everyday pass to Disneyland.
Manufacturers have been making “California” and “non-California” wood stoves for decades.
Wood stoves are a very small niche market. They aren't Toyotas.
There are other items in the Northern Tools catalog which are CA vs. non-CA.
There's lots of goods that are CA and non-CA.
Not automobiles. Really, not anything that's expensive and heavy industry, whether jet skis, motorcycles, or tractors.
Today your car will ‘scold’ you. Tomorrow, it will limit you. Soon after, it will shut down and send an email to Big Brother.
I was thinking about starting a company called “Techless”.
Bring your car in and we remove all technology except an AM/FM radio but install a cell phone jammer and provide an Atlas.
What this does is make you drive your car completely by yourself unaffected by diversions, can’t watch videos, must stay in your lane on your own, turn on your own windshield wipers, dim your lights as needed, turn them on when needed, park your own car, pull over to make a call, know where you’re going by reading a map etc.
sound like a cottage industry in the making. “car won’t go FAST? we can fix that!”
Ironic. I was TDY to Kalifornia in the early 90s and almost got ticketed for holding up traffic. Everyone else was going 15-20 over and being a “visitor”, I was uncomfortable going more than 10 over.....the cop gave me a warning and said that one had to go with the flow of traffic no matter what the signs said....

I drove a new Toyota rental and it indicated the speed limit on the dash indicator in green. The car apparently has GPS event though there was no GPS navigation function
So, the Corolla already has the ability to know when the driver is driving in excess of the limit. The computer running everything van set a maximul possible speed
I use WAZE navigation and it always posts a red indicator when I am speeding. On interstates, everyone driving in the left lane is always speeding.
California has resigned from America. What the wackos in the government propose and do should not concern Americans
Racist speed governors
California has one too gas prices via taxes gouge until they bleed.
I already told you. And the top ends are all unlimited and my Hayabusa too
Automakers already (sort of) make California vs non-California cars: EV vs ICE.
