Six people miraculously managed to survive a plane crash on Saturday afternoon after the pilot parachuted out of the aircraft near Butler Memorial Airport in Bates County, Missouri.
The plane, a single-engine Cessna C206, crashed in a hay field close to the airport, outside of Kansas City, just before 1pm on Saturday.
The Bates County Sheriff’s Office said the aircraft was found just east of the runway.
The pilot had been wearing a parachute and was able to jump from the plane before the crash. He was found at a hangar at the airport.
The other six passengers were all treated and released at the scene...

“They all get to spend one minute with the pilot alone in a locked room so he can try to explain why he did what he did.”
Do you really believe what you are saying? That six survived that crash?
Yeah, just try to get on al airline flight with a parachute.
There were one or more communists on that plane.
7 guys in a 206 is why they crashed.
Yeh, I’m pretty sure its a 6 place aircraft.
For people to walk away alive and relatively unhurt, someone had to maneuver a less than ideal landing but not a full on crash, bang, boom landing.
Reminds me of the YouTube moron who purposely crashed his airplane for internet fame.
An Englishman, a Frenchman, a Texan and a Mexican are on a plane that is crashing. The Englishman decides to save everyone an says “God save the queen!” and jumps out. The plane is still crashing, so the Frenchman says “vive la France!” and jumps out. The plane is still crashing, so the Texas says “remember the Alamo!” and throws out the Mexican.
yep, likely bullSchiff.
When did the pilot exit/deploy his parachute? on the ground?
When did the passengers exit the aircraft?
It’s entirely possible one of the skydivers damaged the tail upon exit, leaving the pilot no choice but to bail.

At least 7?
To be honest I’ve flown in five or six 172’s they’ve never had parachutes! I’m going to have to check that out.
Is that a new reg?
There is!
Everybody on board the 206 was wearing a parachute — they were sky-divers!
the 2-6 was configured for sky-divers - probably had one seat for the pilot and the sky-divers sat on the floor.
Without knowing much about the incident, I’d wager the sky-divers jumped first — IOW, the pilot was the last one out of the 206.
Dumbass reporter implied the pilot jumped first and left the six pax to fend for themselves.
The 206 I flew back in the day had a large cargo door on the starboard side aft fuselage. By removing the door and the 5 pax seats, the aircraft could be configured to carry six jumpers.
When so configured for sky-diving, the jumpers have to get out before the pilot can get to the door. Bailing out of pilot’s door is a “No-Go” proposition, IMHO, unless it was rigged to be manually jettisoned — a “feature” I never saw incorporated on a pilot side door.

When told of the pilot’s whereabouts, the passengers beat the pilot to within an inch of his life.
Makes me question the pilot’s confidence in the aircraft.
Anyone can land a plane...walking away is the tricky part.
I saw this Columbo episode.
Many many years ago my uncle was an AF pilot. He had a passenger in his 2 seat jet and the plane developed problems. He got the passenger out and went down with the plane. He didn’t survive.
So the captain didn’t want to go down with his ship? Took the only life raft and left the passengers to perish.
