Six people miraculously managed to survive a plane crash on Saturday afternoon after the pilot parachuted out of the aircraft near Butler Memorial Airport in Bates County, Missouri.

The plane, a single-engine Cessna C206, crashed in a hay field close to the airport, outside of Kansas City, just before 1pm on Saturday.

The Bates County Sheriff’s Office said the aircraft was found just east of the runway.

The pilot had been wearing a parachute and was able to jump from the plane before the crash. He was found at a hangar at the airport.

The other six passengers were all treated and released at the scene...

“I bet there is more to this story!”

Skydivers? I bet all the others jumped before the pilot.

Pretty common for jump plane pilots to wear a parachute:

“In some circles, it’s not uncommon for all the passengers to have a parachute, but not the pilot.”

Which circles?

“The reverse does seem odd.”

I am betting all had parachutes.

“They knew how to fly, just not very well. I blame microsoft flight simulator.”

No way six survived that crash. They all jumped.

Here is an even scarier 2 plane skydiving incident where one pilot has to bail out (w/parachute) after a collision/fire/wing separation!:

No deaths!

“I bet there is more to this story!”

FAA requires skydiving pilots to wear parachutes when the door is open.

“This is very strange. Either staged, or one of the passengers knew how to fly the plane, or both.”

Not strange. All had parachutes!

"Someone had to land the plane. It didn’t just land itself."

Not true.

In the fullness of time, the number of landings made by an airplane always equals the number of take-offs. If it took off, it was going to land, whether anybody was at the controls or not.

Well, somebody had to file an accurate report to the FAA...

I wonder how many parachutes were onboard? Parachutes aren’t required like life vests are.

Unless in a spin, most lower end Cessnas will generally descend in a relatively straight ahead path.

"FAA requires skydiving pilots to wear parachutes when the door is open.

------------------------

Only on smaller jump planes...on any aircraft with a bulkhead between the cockpit and the skydiver jump area/exit door the pilots are not required to wear a parachute.

Like on the "Bad Boy" jump JET!:

“Parachutes aren’t required like life vests are.”

They are when you’re intending to parachute from the plane.

At least seven per FAA requirements.

They all get to spend one minute with the pilot alone in a locked room so he can try to explain why he did what he did.
