Irish ambassador reprimanded over Palestine state recognition

Irish Ambassador to Israel Sonya McGuinness was summoned to the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jerusalem today and reprimanded over Ireland’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine.

The ambassadors of Spain and Norway attended the same meeting for the same reason.

Before any discussions, they were shown a previously unaired video of Hamas taking female army conscripts captive on 7 October last year.

It is understood the Irish Government was disappointed at this, on the basis that it fell below the established procedures and practices regarding diplomatic engagement.

What is believed to have been a “forthright exchange of views” then took place at the meeting between both sides. Despite speculation in the media, Israeli officials did not announce that any restrictions would be placed on the Irish, Spanish and Norwegian diplomatic missions.

After the diplomatic démarche, an Israeli government spokesperson asserted that: “A recognition of a Palestinian state does not promote peace. It perpetuates war.”

Taoiseach Simon Harris has said he will not tolerate any country misrepresenting the views of Irish people, adding that the Irish ambassador to Israel is doing an “excellent” job representing the views of Ireland. …

Simon Harris:

Harris was educated at St David's Holy Faith Secondary School in Greystones, where he was active in drama and was head boy.

At the age of 13, he had written a play.

He first became involved in local politics as a fifteen-year-old when he set up the North Wicklow Triple A Alliance to help the families of children with autism spectrum disorders and attention deficit disorder. As a Junior Certificate student, he lobbied politicians to get better facilities to allow children with such disabilities to be integrated into mainstream education.

Harris was a member of Fianna Fáil and canvassed for Dick Roche in the 2002 Irish general election, but later joined Fine Gael and was elected to Young Fine Gael's national executive in 2003.

Harris initially studied journalism and French, at the Dublin Institute of Technology, but dropped out in first year.

Explains a lot.

What a fag. "journalism and French"

I feel ashamed of my Irish ancestry. Throwing their hat into the ring for the hamasanimals.
Imagine if you will, an extreme Ulster protestant group launches a raid into Ireland and rapes and murders 1000 men and women and takes a couple of hundred hostages. One of their demands is international recognition of ULster as an independent country. How would Dublin view things if countries lined up to give recoginition. A mega reward for terrorism. The irony would be lost on the current Irish.

I wonder what the Karen, Basques, Kurds etc must be thinking. Mass terrorism gets results. I don’t think they would stoop as low as the fakestinians. But they certainly must think it pays. Israel should mount a campaign of recognising a Kurdish state. Expose hypocrites like Ireland Turkey. Have a convention of peoples far deserving of a state than the arab interlopers west of the Jordan, trying to dislodge the indigenous Hebrews.
Iuck Fireland

IMO it would be wise for Israel to realize that they have *no* friends left in Europe....and that they don’t have many friends (of importance) left in this country.

I am not familiar enough with the politics of the three countries that recognize Palestine as an independent state. My assumption is that they are all under left wing governments. However, it must be remembered that the European right wing has had considerable sympathies toward fascism. I mean real fascism of the Mussolini or Franco type, not what liberals call fascist. Spain was ruled by Franco for over 30 years, and was not as anti-Semitic as Hitler, but was not friendly towards the Jews or Israel. Norway was occupied by the Nazis during World War II, but they did not have as vigorous a resistance movement as did most of the other occupied Nations. Unlike Danish Jews, most Norwegian Jews were deported to Nazi concentration camps. As for the Republic of Ireland, it must be remembered that far more Irish volunteered to support Franco during the Spanish Civil War than fought on the Communist side. Remember that the Irish Prime Minister paid homage at the German Embassy upon the death of Hitler.

There is no European “right wing” as we understand the term. Fascism is a left-wing philosophy, all about “social justice” and wealth redistribution as Mussolini himself described it.

JFTR, the official Irish position on the so-called “Palestinian state” is that it must be based on the indefensible 1967 “borders”, which sees Israel ceding all of Judea-Samaria aka the “West Bank”, the Golan Heights and worst of all East Jerusalem where the Old City and Temple Mount are. Total disgrace on Ireland’s part.
