Russian patriotic bloggers express anger at arrest of former commander Gen. Ivan Popov

Russian patriotic bloggers expressed anger on Wednesday over the arrest of the former commander of Russia's 58th army, who was detained for fraud, and cast him as a talented general who had the courage to speak the truth to incompetent superiors.

Russia's state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday that Major General Ivan Popov had been arrested on suspicion of "large-scale fraud".

It was not possible to contact Popov directly, who Russian media said stood accused of stealing 100 million roubles ($1.1 million) of metal.

Following a June 2023 mutiny by Wagner mercenaries against Russia's defence establishment, Popov said he had been dismissed after telling the top brass about the dire situation at the front in Ukraine.

Popov, whose military call sign was "Spartacus" and who was popular with the troops, said at the time that Russian soldiers had been stabbed in the back because of the failings of their senior commanders.

"I know one thing: Ivan was at the head of the forces that repelled the enemy's counteroffensive," Alexander Sladkov, a war correspondent for Russian state television, said on Telegram.

"Stupid people are forgiven for lies and losses so others, I think, can be forgiven for the ruthless truth," he said. "General Ivan Popov is not a thief. He is a soldier. However... we also forgive thieves."

The support for Popov was widespread among pro-Russian military bloggers, who dismissed the allegations against him and cast Popov as a patriot who was being punished for speaking truth to power

An analyst with a lot of experience facing the Russians in Europe, cited a major weakness being that Putin had eliminated all other leadership voices.

The Hitler model of governing only goes so far.

The other major weakness was their supply capabilities, relying heavily on railroads and lacking a robust system of roads.

The only mistake so far is the same analyst thought giving Ukraine modern armor would be a game changer. Unfortunately it looks like artillery, missiles and drones have crippled the effectiveness of tanks across open terrain, for both sides.

So Popov will be the next Russian general who is popped off?

Russian propaganda can’t hide the truth... Russia is on the verge of enduring yet another revolution. During World War 1 it was the refusal of Russian troops to fight which led to that revolution. When will Russians start refusing to be fodder for Putin’s folly? Today? Tomorrow? Next week? The end is nigh. It’s just a matter of time.

“The only mistake so far is the same analyst thought giving Ukraine modern armor would be a game changer.”

We’re giving them better armor but not modern armor. What the Ukrainians are receiving are 30-40 year old reconditioned vehicles that have been sanitized of their sensitive electronics and optics.

Unconfirmed, but I have heard that some of the tanks and Bradleys sent to Ukraine are veterans of the first Gulf War.

They’re still better than the Soviet gear but they’re not state of the art by any measure.

Pretty sure Rooters and Faulconbridge are in close contact with all three of them.

relying heavily on railroad

They do do even use forklifts or have pallet jacks - all supplies moved by hand; supplies are literally thrown into piles after human chain moves them there.

Kremlin snuff box, 05/23/24
https://t.me/s/kremlin_secrets

The arrests of generals continue: who is next? We learned three names

Detentions and arrests of high-ranking generals, which intensified after Andrei Belousov became Minister of Defense, continue. And the arrested Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Vadim Shamarin, is far from the last high-ranking military man in this row.

According to our sources in the Ministry of Defense and the Kremlin, the activities of many generals ( and not only in the ministry itself and in the General Staff ) are now under close scrutiny, and non-public investigative actions are being conducted.

We don’t want to please the enemy (in Kyiv they are happy after every high-profile arrest in our country), but we must note that we know the names of those military leaders who may become next. There are quite a lot of them.

But the most serious questions have accumulated for the former commander-in-chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, generals Alexander Lapin and Andrei Kuzmenko. According to one of the interlocutors, they are guilty of “especially grave sins.”

There are also many questions for the generals and the command of the Special Forces. It turned out that the elite fighters were guarding not only Shoigu’s deputy Timur Ivanov ( this data our sources, unfortunately, confirmed ), but also many other generals. As well as their housing and especially valuable property.

By the way, the information about the MTR reached Vladimir Putin; Alexey Dyumin personally reported it to him. Alexey Gennadievich was extremely outraged by the fact that elite fighters were being used for such purposes and asked the president for a tough reaction to this blatant fact.

What’s sad is that, against the backdrop of anti-corruption arrests of generals, the settling of scores with unwanted military leaders will most likely continue. Many sources in the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff fear that the case of General Ivan Popov is only the first sign in this unpleasant process.

Popov participated in last year’s Wagner insurrection, that’s why he was removed.

Putin isn’t scared of or controlled by his military.

Putin isn’t scared of or controlled by his military.

Then why did he scurry out of Moscow like a frightened little girl when Prigozhin was on the march?

The Hitler model of governing only goes so far.

Saddam's army had the same issue. All the Generals were "yes men".

Hitler benefited from the Prussian military excellence and traditions. As we see, that's not the case with the Russians and the Iraqis.

Hitler didn’t eliminate all voices. It is what voices made up to excuse their failure.

Well it’s good that a lot of Russians are dying.

But Putin is going no where “at will”.

Maybe he’s building a bridge of Russian corpses and his will be the last.

Keep murdering your people Vlad. Three years of murdering Russian kids.

In the end they will kill Putin.
