I have read that the only reason Hinduism is still around is because of the British Invasion in the 1700s driving a wedge between the murderous moslems and the Hindus, otherwise the Hindus would have been forced to convert or die.

Somewhat.

In the late 1600s to 1707 under the jihadi Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Hindus were targeted and were losing.

After Aurangzeb died, the Mughal empire collapsed, replaced by the Hindu Maratha confederation

but the problem is that the Marathas were a confederation, not a unitary power. So easy for the Brits to pick off one by one
