In the late 1600s to 1707 under the jihadi Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Hindus were targeted and were losing.

After Aurangzeb died, the Mughal empire collapsed, replaced by the Hindu Maratha confederation

but the problem is that the Marathas were a confederation, not a unitary power. So easy for the Brits to pick off one by one

if I may ask: didn‘t, however, the relative weakness of the Marathi confederation (in comparison to the Mughal empire) enable the British to gain influence in India, culminating eventually in the establishment of British India?
