Jo O'Brien feels like she has nothing left to lose. After her life savings were stolen, desperation led her in an unusual direction. She's been texting the man who admitted being involved in the elaborate plot that ripped her off.

Many people would hesitate before pressing send, but Ms O'Brien is not one of them. "Why would people think it's unusual? "Why wouldn't you just ask, 'Where's my money?'" she asked.

And that's exactly what she's been doing. On the receiving end is the Pakistan-born director of a tiny Melbourne company facing serious allegations. He is 29-year-old Muhammad Ali Waheed.

I scanned through the article, but couldn’t figure out how the scam worked. How did Waleed get her money?

She probably gave it to him expecting a great return on her investments. You know, like a financial advisor does. Right?

Another article explains:

In June 2022, on the cusp of rebuilding her life, she wanted to invest her funds and thought she had found a secure long-term deposit account managed by financial giant AMP. . . . . But the "AMP advisors" she was speaking to were scammers who tricked her into sending the money into an Australian bank account before the funds disappeared offshore.

There are a couple of Youtube hackers that are creating havoc with those overseas scammers by actually accessing their own computers. In a couple of cases, they’ve actually recovered the monies for the victims.

A neighbor of mine was scammed out of his life savings - the criminals were verrrrry savvy. They spoofed his bank phone number and called him with ‘security risks’ that were supposedly taking place in real time. He gave his account numbers to stop the theft and then watched online as the thieves took his account down to zero.

He has children who are 100% disabled and this was THEIR care money. Since he gave access - because of the spoofed bank phone number - he is out of luck and his money is gone forever. Just horrifying. He has enough on his plate and how he is bankrupted by these criminal vermin.

There are a few really good guys online who track down these people. I emailed two of them and never heard back.

I’m waiting for the day my MIL gets scammed. She will reply to emails that say “$53.26 has been charged to your Paypal account - please call this number if you did not authorize this.”

“Hello? I got an email - and I don’t even have a Paypal account...”

She does this with all of them, in spite of my wife telling her to not even open them (some can corrupt your computer just by clicking on them).

My son got scammed out of $100 from a text using his Pastor’s phone number. They said he was buying something for the youth group but his card wasn’t working, so could my son put money on some sort of card and he would pay him back.

My son said “Well, it was early and the text woke me up. The text was rush-rush and it sounded like he was in a panic.”

Years and years ago I got a call from some police department saying that the stuff I had bought from Ebay was stolen and that I needed to return it to their police department.

I told them I didn’t know that it was stolen, but if it was I would cooperate fully. I asked them to send me a formal letter on their letterhead with the case number, serial numbers and description of the stole equipment. (Never heard from them.) I seem to recall I thought it was a 50/50 chance that it really was the cops. Silly me.

Same with my father. He answers unknown phone numbers even though we have told him they just want his voice so they can AI it and scam him.

Due to the ease with which these scams can be made by impersonating a voice, one can see why it will become essential to have a far more invasive 2FA (two-factor authentication).... not just where the second part is a code that gets sent to a cell phone but a verification that is directly connected to the person trying to do the verification i.e. attached to the person’s body.

Revelation 13:
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

A fool and their money are soon parted but a greedy fool is a perfect mark.

Some generations cannot ignore a phone call. I know people who got scammed even after learning of the scam previously. It’s just easier to blindly follow instructions than do any analytical work to decide if it is legit. That does not apply to your children’s instructions. You just ignore those. Unlike scammers from Pakistan, your children are idiots.

It’s still $3.99 to rent on Prime. Gonna have to be cheaper before I rent. But, I WILL see that movie. Remember “Wrath of Man”?

Wrath of Man was probably a better movie but bee keeper is appropriate in this woman’s case.

How very sad. Is there no relief for this person? Their money is gone?

I had an East Indian scammer call me earlier today, told him to pleasure himself and hung up.

I don’t think anything could be done. He has severe health problems now so is having to deal with those issues as well as caring for his children.

May those criminals burn in hell.

I truly wished one of these scam buster internet sleuths could have helped him.
