As the war in Ukraine enters its third summer, Russia is on the offensive.

All along the 600-mile frontline, the Kremlin’s invasion forces are exploiting Ukrainian exhaustion and a six-month delay in American military aid.

A shock offensive in the Kharkiv region has seen Putin’s troops cross the border for the first time since the 2022 invasion.

Villages in the Zaporizhzhya region have been wiped off the map as Russia tries to reverse the gains of Ukraine’s 2023 counter-offensive.

But the central Russian effort is focused on Donetsk region, where they are now on the outskirts of the hill-top town of Chasiv Yar.

If they capture it, they will be in striking distance of the greatest prize: the fortress cities of Ukraine’s Donbas.

The article is behind a paywall but do you know if it mentions things like elevated Russian egg prices, the reduction of spare parts for Russian civilian aircraft or the neglecting of the Russian space program ?

The above were the focus of articles by the western media posted here by zeepers to argue that Russia is losing

The stuff you posted about the battlefield isn’t important

They got a long way to go to break Bush’s record...His “Compassionate war” lasted 10 years.. We won nothing but death and debt.

The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for 10 years. It started in 2014 when the US and the EU engineered a coup of the duly elected government of Ukraine. It spawned the separatist movement in the Donbas and the first Russian invasion that resulted in the annexation of Crimea.

Unlike Bush’s wars, this one could result in a direct confrontation with Russia, a nuclear power. Regardless, we are so locked in with aid to Ukraine that it could last for decades both in war and peace. Zelensky estimated it will take $800 billion to rebuild Ukraine, one of the most corrupt countries in the world before the war.

It was 10 years between Japan invading Manchuria and Pearl Harbor.

“...and a six-month delay in American military aid.”

This has been TOTALLY DEBUNKED as it would have been VERY SIMPLE for Europe to buy our weapons and send it to Ukraine, and it would not even have cost much money (relatively speaking).

The REAL PROBLEM was that nothing was left to give to Ukraine, so the 6 months were needed to spit out a few new weapons (it’s really hard now, when you don’t even know if you have women working for you...after all, “what is a woman”).

So, Ukraine got a few more weapons, while Russia still has something like 80 to 90% of their Soviet arsenal left and so can stay fully armed as long as needed.

The battle field is irrelevant.

It’s V2-style hits on civilian Russian targets which will decide the war. / s

So using your analogy, Russia is going to attack the US.? Or invade Poland?

The war IN UKRAINE has been going on for 10 years. Russia doesn’t have the conventional forces to invade and occupy Europe. It is an aging nation of 143 million people with a declining population.

The biggest existential threat to the U.S. comes from China.

Isn’t it funny how our two biggest Allies during WWII, Russia and China, are now our enemies?

I don’t think Soviet Russia nor Chinese communists were ever our allies - merely enemies of our enemies.

How many Russian cities have been razed to the ground?
As to the battle front, 3-5 golf cart assaults and inability to stop attacks in Crimea and far flung regions of Russia is not a good look for “2nd greatest military”

Interesting comment.
Russia began ww2 allied with nazi germany and invaded Poland with Germany. Even held victory parade with Germany
Then invaded Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

Curious why Briton and France declared war on Germany after polish invasion but not Soviets

You might note that the “great patriotic war” didn’t begin in sept 39, but when Germany invaded Soviet Union.

As to China, the Chinese had a little thing called a communist revolution after ww2 and the Chinese govt that we were allied with fled to Taiwan, and we are more or less still allied with them

Germany launched over 3000 V2 rockets from Sept 1944 to March 1945. The allies couldn’t stop them but they didn’t turn out to be militarily significant.

“Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.”

“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

“The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.”

Orwell was so prescient. Our government manipulates us constantly.

Worth remembering that the overwhelming majority of German casualties in WWII were inflicted by the Soviets. Google the battle of Kursk.

Our alliance with Stalin saved millions of Allied lives. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
