A national group plans to spend big on television ads aimed at a Kentucky congressman because of his perceived anti-Israel views.
The United Democracy Project will spend about $300,000 to buy ads on Fox affiliates criticizing Republican Rep. Thomas Massie’s voting record on measures supporting Israel, said project spokesperson Patrick Dorton.
"We are not playing in the primary, but we are trying to shine a light on the radical anti-Israel record of Tom Massie," Dorton said. "We want every voter in the state of Kentucky to know about his anti-Israel actions."
“Republicans are trying to help Israel, but one Republican is standing in the way,” the ad states, adding Massie voted against Israel with “anti-Israel radicals” 15 times in April.
The United Democracy Project is an affiliate of AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a major pro-Israel lobbying group
Massie is being challenged by fellow Republicans Eric Deters and Michael McGinnis in the May 21 primary.
Massie said in a statement to The Courier Journal he believes AIPAC is trying to "tilt the outcome of the election" toward Deters by running the ads close to the upcoming primary. He also raised the question if House Speaker Mike Johnson was involved with the ads.
"This week in our GOP conference meeting, as members groused about blowback from the latest anti-antisemitism resolution, Speaker Johnson pledged to call his contacts at Jewish/Israel groups if they mustered opposition to any member of our conference," Massie said. "This, and the timing of the ad announcement, does raise the question of whether the ads were suggested by or sanctioned by Speaker Johnson."
“I am often the lone Republican for freedom of speech, against foreign aid, and opposed to wars in the Middle East,” Massie also said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

being unfriendly with Israel, especially while the IDF is fighting back from the Fakestinian terrorist attack and mass slaughter of 1300 innocent citizens in their homes and schools, is totally immoral and very much out of sync with the state.
This guy’s either very badly mis-informed or else he has a serious prejudice issue (I can’t know), he needs to get his act together now (either way) imho. Like yesterday.
These same left wing groups spent $2 million to make sure the liberal Republican won the primary in Indiana’s 8th district a couple of weeks ago.
I don’t recall seeing them ever go after any of the virulently pro-Palestinian Democrats though. Funny how that works.
He’s America First and means it
According to the article, the group going after Massie is affiliated with AIPAC.
And therein lies the problem, as you well know. Being "America First" is impermissible for a Republican. A GOPer may get away with "America Second," but only one country ever gets to be "first."
Thank God someone still is in congress.

Does Massie’s voting record on NATO funding, on Korea and Japan defense funding, and on Ukraine funding, square up with his NO vote on Israel funding?
Your thought makes sone sense. Except that but got the alliance with France and French assistance, the American revolution would likely have failed. And without the Soviet Union, the allied war effort could well have failed in WW2. Alliances have always been a part of nation states’ affairs. As a very practical thing as well as ideological.
At any event, I’d be happy to discuss your more isolationist position (not a put- down in the slightest) after the IDF eliminates the threats to her country.
I cannot approve or support the backstabbing of an ally during hostilities. The timing is totally immoral even if we were to agree on policy. (And the messaging to the rest of the world, including nations like iran that are sworn to attack, nuke usa, destroy America) is disastrous.

America has always been whackadoodle when it comes to religion.
To be sure, the embrace by American evangelicals of Darbyite dispensationalist nonsense at the turn of the (20th) century was an unfortunate development.
I've been hearing this for decades. But there is always some foreign cause making claims on us. "Isolationism is fine after we eliminate [fill in current Hitler of the month here]."
And Israel is always claiming some special "temporary crisis" requiring our help.
I remember in the late 1970s, Israel was saying that it only needed U.S. aid for "just a few more years, just until it could get on its feet."
In the 1980s, it was just for the duration of the Cold War. "The Soviets support the Arabs. It wouldn't be right to pull support from Israel while the Soviets are supporting the Arabs."
In the 1990s, it was because of the sudden influx of a million Soviet Jews into Israel, so new housing had to be built, which the U.S. was somehow obligated to pay for.
Then it was Saddam (a war we fought largely for Israel). Then it was Iran. Israel's "temporary crises" never end.
Which is true of every welfare client, foreign and domestic. But while conservatives know that welfare breeds dependency, some apparently believe this economic law is suspended in the case of Israel.
No. I just want my government to honor its commitments and stand for — or at least conduct itself— in a morally defensible manner.
Even if we were to agree on, presumably, stopping cooperative agreements and/or aid with our allies, backstabbing them during hostilities is not acceptable imho. There will be plenty of time to discuss even a total revamp of all USA policies (including the billions in aid to Turkey, Arabia and Egypt and Iran and…yes, Ukraine) late. Today during the hostilities I want Biden to stop backpedaling and dissing Israel and their elected prime minister.
