Houston distributes water as more than 500,000 remain without power after devastating storms

The city of Houston on Saturday opened new distribution centers to give out water as around 500,000 customers remained without power following severe storms blamed in the deaths of seven people in the region.

Houston was forecast to reach a high of 90 degrees Saturday as the city and Harris County recovers from tornadoes and 100 mph straight-line winds that struck with little warning on Thursday.

Seven deaths — four in Houston and three in unincorporated Harris County — have been blamed on effects from the weather, including from falling trees and a fire sparked by lighting.

On average, a home uses about 7 kW. 600 homes is 4,200 kw or 4.2 MW. The big offshore wind turbines are at that size.

BJT you are falling for the fallacy that every wind turning will produce 100% of its nameplate rating 100% of the time which is obviously not true or possible. Wind turbines have crappy “capacity factors.” That’s simply the time averaged output divided by that 100% nameplate rating. Wind turbines have a Capacity Factor around 28% which is awful. How would you like to invest in a factory designed to produce 100 widgets per hour but can only achieve 28 widgets per hour?

So what do you do? The obvious solution is to overbuild by 3X.

But even 3X won’t do a thing when the wind stops blowing…which it does. So you can build energy storage systems to save energy, right? No, they do not exist and never will. All of the nation’s installed battery capacity today can power the country for less than one minute and at fantastically high prices. Plus you have toxic batteries that are nothing but hazardous waste at the end of their 20 year lifespans.

Wind and solar are gigantic scams only being pursued by rent seekers. It is trillions of dollars of wealth siphoned off by “green” companies, pols (mostly Dem), university professors, CEOs and exec staff of “green” companies and other parasites.

Problem # 1, CenterPoint, electrical provide has not provided any information on restoration time frame.

Problem # 2, High Voltage Towers are going to take a longtime to replace (months not weeks). CenterPoint has not been honest with those effected. Those effected will need to make alternate living arrangements.

Problem # 3, I do not believe that the other Transmission lines will be able to replace the lost power. So the summer rolling brown outs are possible.

I’m pretty sure that transmission towers are rated for WAY higher wind loads than occurred in this storm. This begs an important question about inspection and maintenance.

“A relative on Facebook said this is because of climate change”

They won’t need to worry about Facebook banning them.

They have been properly brainwashed to obey their masters.

Looks even worse than some of the Ike and Harvey downtown destruction.

1. Got electricity back 🥳

2. Towers, that was my thought especially with all the hurricanes Houston has experienced and I don’t remember any towers going down over 45 years here…. 🤔

I believe they were directly hit by a tornado, so I don't know if you can reasonably build an transmission line to withstand that.
