The Department of Veterans Affairs has paid out hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars in bonuses to executives, according to a federal watchdog report.
The VA Inspector General released a report detailing that the VA "erroneously" paid out about $11 million in bonuses to executives that were later found to be ineligible for those bonuses.
The bonuses totaled as much as $100,000 for just one federal employee.
“During oversight visits across the country, we have consistently heard from VA police officers, medical supply technicians, housekeepers, and other VA staff about the need for VA to better retain quality employees,” House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost, R-Ill., said in a statement. “Instead of using all of the critical skill incentives to do this, VA inappropriately used the money to line the pockets of VA executives to the detriment of VA’s workforce and the veterans they serve.”
Federal watchdogs reported last year that the VA paid out $9.7 million in bonuses. After that report, the VA pledged to cancel the bonuses.

Erroneously my foot.
IIRC Rush was fond of saying that, in such cases, there are no errors.
This is no big deal! Mistakes do happen. For example, more than once I thought I was leaving a $5 tip to a waitress. Only much later did I discover that I had left $20,000.

Then fire them.
When did becoming a federal employee become a license to steal?
Fauci is the model.
> Then fire them. <
Right you are. And perhaps also consider a criminal investigation, to see if any overpayments were deliberate.
But no one gets fired from a government job anymore. Or should I say, permanently fired. Many folks who do get fired, appeal. They win their appeal and get their jobs back. With back pay, of course.
This not only keeps bad workers in their jobs. It also demoralizes the good workers.
Don’t even get me started on the VA. I am beyond enraged at the VA as of late. Long story short, even though I qualify for disability benefits, they keep denying my claims. They have forgotten to “remember those who have served.”
“that’s a serious problem for the second largest agency in the federal government”
That - 2nd largest federal agency - I did not know. But it’s true - 411,000, 2nd only to DOD 772,000.
Firing a fed govt employee is an automatic black mark on his supervisor. The official govt stance is that there are no bad employees. Yes, this is insane. But that is the system. The few decent people in govt are hamstrung by masses of insane regulations.
These nasty disgusting ilk take my VA health care money and give it to illegal aliens and then VA employees give themselves bonuses. I have such deep distain for these people.
This makes me so angry. My son has been fighting with them for several years. Not only that but he never received his bonuses for signing up like they promised him.
