The difference is, China can't touch me.
Don't look now, but, YES! they do.
China is into every product that you touch or handle or hear or see or breathe. And, TikTok might not be directly in touch with you, but everything they do in TikTok will affect you and me and everybody else that's ever heard of China.
TikTok is just one way to get at you, directly or indirectly.
The CCP is the biggest reason that America spends so much dough for defense, and TikTok makes a lot of things easier for the CCP to accomplish.
And, China does monitor your thoughts, even if not directly through TikTok. The Chinese are also big users of all our media sites, whether social or news or whatever. Look up! There might be a Chinese balloon monitoring all your communications, from directly above your head. If not a balloon, then, a satellite equipped to see and hear everything that comes out of your head. We're not in the '60s anymore. That 'phone' in your hands likely has a Chinese chip that collects and sends your communications to China, in some unbeknownst form or another.

I prefer ANY two groups control communication than any one group.
I also don’t think the CCP is worse than, say, Google or Facebook.

I don’t believe guns ‘think’.
Smart guns have already been developed. The smart chips in them could eventually make the 'right to bear arms' obsolete, via government control of those weapons. You may be able to buy and 'own' them, but, only the government will allow you to use them. The thinking part of guns, is via what the government thinks you need them for.

I’m wondering how we got from students who sympathize with Hamas due to influence from TikTok, to ‘smart guns’...

Ever hear of tangential topis or tangential conversations? BTW, I didn't bring up the topic of guns; somebody else did.
It's also about analogies, which can happen any time.

It's better to have two sources of information than one. WE have a plethora of new sources. You are free to read The China Daily and Global Times or watch Xinhua. TikTok is fundamentally different because 1/3 of the country doesn't understand it is PRC propoganda. Moreover, they choose what people see in a stream, which is different than news.
The People running Google and FAcebook want America to be like Europe but majority minority They don't want China running the world order.

Israel has gas and could be pumping gas from the southern field just as it has with the fields divided between Israel, Lebanon, and Cyprus. An alternate canal makes no sense. It would be prohibitively expensive, be an environmental nightmare, and wouldn't solve the strategic issues with the Red sea. The problems in the Red Sea are at the southern entrance with Somalia and Houthis.
How could they not have gotten wind of Hamas plans to attack? Did they and someone did not take it seriously?
The Mossad and Military intelligence are run by the LEft in Israel. Since 1993, the Left in Israel are Oslo Process fanatics, who literally refuse to pay attention to what the PLO and Hamas say, as it would force them to change policy. Intel officers quoting Hamas etc are forced out or just not promoted. A year ago, the US and global left including their collaborators in Israel were pushing the notion that Hamas was moderating due to having to run a state and was fighting Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Isis Gaza. Worse, Israeli intelligence was busy with the Biden attempted color revolution against Netanyahu. The last thing the intelligence services or security state wanted was an attack that would kill the "two state solution" for a generation.

Thanks for the article. After reading it my thoughts that senior IDF & Politicians purposely let Oct 7th happen is reinforced.
They purposely ignored warnings from both IDF intelligence soldiers and independent monitors so that they could let Hamas attack.
Therefore, having a reason to mount a full scale invasion of Gaza. The attack was needed to galvanize public opinion in Israel and the rest of the world.
However, this does not change the fact that Hamas are bloody savages. That they chose to attack civilians and commit atrocities not seen in the civilized world in a long time.
It would have been different IF Hamas had only attacked IDF bases across the border. IF they had only taken prisoner IDF soldiers. IF they had only killed IDF soldiers. No, they killed hundreds of innocent women and children. Many of them raped and killed in the most brutal means.
So, in a way Israeli Intelligence and Senior Political leaders just let Hamas be released to do as they do. Be the savages that they are. The difference is that the whole world was witness to it on a much larger scale.

I appreciate your reply.
What do you think of the Catherine Glick article from FR post #54 ?
To: rmlew
Sorry, I meant Caroline Glick article from post #54.
To: woodbutcher1963
I have been following Glick for years. Never met her in person, but we have mutual friends. Big fan of her work on Israeli politics, although she is a little off on American politics.
General Haliva is the tip of an iceberg of corrupt ideologues putting Oslo delusions above all else. In a sane country, General Haliva would have been given a gun with one bullet on October 8th,
pour encourager les autres.
