In 2012, Obama campaigned almost exclusively to a patchwork of special-interest groups that often had conflicting goals, aside from their general alignment with the far left. I don't recall any particular "shift to the center" to go after moderates.

But then, I suspect there was a certain amount of vote fraud in play back then, too. Weak candidates like Mitt make it so easy to hide.
