Had a bad week. We had very vicious storms Thursday. We had straight line winds over 75 MPH for a few minutes. It wasn’t a tornado but moved over several Alabama counties. Lots of downed trees everywhere.
Our power went out on Thursday evening and didn’t get restored until yesterday afternoon.
Anyways, my very full extra-large upright freezer, which we never opened in order to keep it cold still, popped open somehow (I think some things at the door defrosted and pushed out) and everything is ruined. I’ve lost hundreds of dollars in meat and other food.
My refrigerator is still too warm... 47 degrees right now, should be 35... The freezer on this unit only 33.
So I’m throwing out everything.
Wow what a loss so sorry to hear bud. I’m just glad everyone is OK. 75 mph winds are hurricane force. Nothing to be out in for sure.
I know in keeping seafood when the fish houses get fish and crawfish in they freeze them for 24 hours at 40 below zero in blast freezer.
After that they will stay at zero degrees for quite some time, months.
You didn’t have a backup generator? Thought every farm had one of those. I picked up one on craigslist last year and can do two houses.
OMG, horrible! Check everything; many things can be re-frozen, but I suppose you know the situation. A chest freezer will stay cold longer, but that and five pennies will get you a nickle right about now. I have a full freezer, too and we are talking a lot of $$$$.
And then the wind clean up. First the logs, then the branches, then the twigs. Takes forever. Royal PITA.
Take care!
That is a Sin! I feel so badly for you! My Patriot Supply has Solar Generators.
In New England power outages are not rare, We have had generators for 40 years.
worth every penny.
so sorry this happened to you!
