The City of San Francisco is handing out bottles of beer, glasses of wine and shots of vodka to homeless alcoholics - and spending $5m a year on the program.
The alcoholic drinks are served by nurses as part of the city's 'managed alcohol program', which has been running for four years, as a way of taking care of vulnerable homeless people.
The program is designed to curb the amount of alcohol homeless people drink. It still allows them some, but in a more managed way, in the hope of curbing their addiction in a controlled manner.

Nurses serving drinks sounds like a sales approach.
I recall a burger joint that served huge burgers with everything on tbem. The waitresses were dressed in skimpy uniforms styled like nurse uniforms. The name of the place?

Curious, if I flew into SF for a 3-day weekend...could I get signed up for free booze claiming homeless status, and get a drink-all-you-want ‘deal’?
Further question...does anyone know of any other city in the US offering up free booze?

The alcoholics will take the free booze and still go out and buy their own on top of it.
Uh, consuming a substance you are addicted to...feeds the addiction...especially since in this case, it is not being given at moderate levels. A shot is not a moderate intake of alcohol...it’s a huge burst all at once.

How is this any different than giving drug addicts needles and a safe place, legalizing weed, gummies for the kids, legalizing hard drugs. We are being eliminated and replaced just look south
