Florida man points AR-15 in Uber driver's face, forces him to ground for dropping daughter off: deputies

MILTON, Fla. - A Florida father was arrested over the weekend after pulling an AR-15 rifle on an Uber driver who dropped his daughter off at his home, according to deputies.

Sean Hollonbeck, 54, of Milton, was taken to jail on charges of false imprisonment of a person and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On May 4, shortly before 11 p.m., an Uber driver arrived at Hollonbeck's home to drop off the suspect's daughter.

The young female was still in the vehicle when she saw her father run up to the driver with an AR-15 in hand and force him to the ground, according to an arrest report.

Deputies said Hollonbeck pointed the gun in the driver's face and screamed at him to get out of the car, as his daughter went inside the home.

The report stated the daughter had friends over at the home who also witnessed the incident.

Hollonbeck forced the driver to show his driver's license before taking pictures of it and letting him go, deputies said.

According to the report, Hollonbeck admitted to his actions and said he was "afraid of his daughter's safety."

He was booked into the Santa Rosa County jail and later released after posting bond, jail records show. Fullscreen button

Adult men should know not to be alone in a vehicle with 13 year old girls.

So men can't be bus drivers anymore? You must want all school bus drivers, taxi drivers, Uber drivers and Lyft drivers to be women.

And presumably in your world if an ambulance crew is made up of men they should just leave an injured 13 year old female on the side of the road.

The guy is crazy. There is no reason for him to be pointing a gun at an Uber driver who is delivering his daughter to his home.

What he did was reckless, illegal, and will cause him and his daughter a lot of needless suffering.

I drove Uber for a while when going to college a little over a decade ago. I had minors (without a parent) ride on a few occasions. Some of them ordered the Uber ride themselves, and some were ordered by a parent. Except when they were in a group I always insisted they ride in the back, while I let adults decide their preference.

There were a couple of occasions when it was very uncomfortable. One was when I picked up a group of four very young black males who had been kicked out of a movie theater (a security guard was present to be sure they left), and that was the most unsafe I ever felt as a driver (even though they were probably 11-12 years old).

In another case I picked up four older, but underage, teen girls (I’d guess 14-16) who were shopping at an upscale outdoor mall. They sang rap songs with sexually explicit lyrics played from their smartphones. Very awkward and uncomfortable to say the least.

But I also took a couple of young kids to school a few times who went from an upscale neighborhood to a private school. The older of the two was probably about 13 and booked the rides himself. They were very polite and intelligent.

You don’t know much about who you are picking up until you arrive and, when I drove, canceling would cause you to not only miss out on a fair but possibly bump you down the priority list for other rides because Uber has to find a new driver who will accept.

I’d advise anyone who chooses to do such a job to invest in a dashcam that documents everything.

When I drove there was no policy on this. But I just checked and apparently Uber has implemented a policy regulating unaccompanied minors riding. The driver has the option to require proof of age and will not be penalized for declining a ride and should report this where it is not allowed. In some cases teenagers can ride without a parent under a family account where the parent is monitoring. So the situation in this story appears to be a violation of Uber policies because the father was unaware of his daughter doing this. If the Uber policy had been followed the dad would at least know where his daughter was. I think Uber and the driver might have some liability in this case. The dad’s choice seems foolish in retrospect, but in the heat of the moment it kind of makes sense.

That’s a good point. Uber was bringing her HOME. I could see getting your gun if the Uber was taking her away, but back home should be good.

You have made up a whole lot of strange scenarios. All of them would also apply to any school bus driver.

Who knows, maybe one of the kids on the bus is having sex with their teacher.

What about the most likely situation - the driver realizes they are taking a young person to their home, and makes sure that the young person gets safely home. Isn't that what you would do if you were an Uber driver?

“There’s gotta be a backstory here.”

She (13) left town without permission and returns with an older man.

“No mention of daughter’s age. Betcha there’s been big issues with her friends or BF.”

13. Left home without permission and is brought back by an older man. Uber cars are unmarked.

“What backstory could there be that would justify this nutjob yanking the uber driver out of his car and pointing a weapon to his face?”

He thought his missing 13 yo daughter was out with a pedophile.

Something tells me this “model citizen” might not be such a model father.

Some very decent people have kids who behave poorly.

ROTFLMAO! Ambulances and crew are well marked!

Laz would say that pictures of the daughter are required.

“I think Uber and the driver might have some liability in this case. The dad’s choice seems foolish in retrospect, but in the heat of the moment it kind of makes sense.”

Then there was the first Uber driver that took her to another town without the father knowing.

Uber took her away without the father knowing. He lost it when his 13 yo missing daughter returned with a possible pedophile.

His actions were wrong but I understand his feelings.

Yes. Both drivers seem to have some culpability. They appear to have picked the girl up, no questions asked. I don’t know but I am guessing that where underage riders are allowed, the driver is notified by the app and also can decide whether to accept in advance. Doesn’t look like policy was followed in either case.

She was 13 and wants a ride to the next town! The Uber driver doesn’t know if it is her home.

If I were the driver I would be on the phone verifying the destination and informing the parents.

BTW, another Uber driver took her to the next town without her parents knowing.

There was no reason to bring the gun but imagine if your missing 13 year old daughter returned home with an older man.

“He thought his missing 13 yo daughter was out with a pedophile.”

Well he thought wrong didn’t he? And now they will take his guns because he’s proven himself an idiot. Instead of asking the driver what’s up he immediately shoves the barrel of a gun to his face. Seems like something a cowardly man afraid of his own shadow would do. Put yourself in the kid’s place. He probably thought he was dealing with a crazy man and his life was in danger.

I was referring to the driver who was like 19.
