Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston & The Gettysburg Address (on location!!!) History Traveler Episode 346
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAXFRxp4gYc
When it comes to the Gettysburg battlefield, there’s no place that’s more important than Cemetery Hill. This is the high ground that the Army of the Potomac fought to defend and that the Army of Northern Virginia tried to take in July of 1863. It’s also where President Lincoln delivered one of the most famous speeches of all time. While at The Gettysburg Film Festival, we received an invitation from The Adams County Historical Society to film a special moment where the Gettysburg Address was delivered with Martin Sheen, who played Robert E. Lee in the movie Gettysburg, & Sam Waterston, who both played Lincoln and voiced him in Ken Burns’ “The Civil War”. Enjoy.
You may want to check the many interesting comments below the video:
“The words of the Gettysburg Address need to be taken sacred and should be essential for our youth to know and understand again. Without remembering our past we doom ourselves in repeating it.”
I love Sam Waterston. Thanks for the Gettysburg link!
Apparently not. LOL
I hope it’s cooled off now that it’s dark.
It has. It’s now 78 and kind of breezy. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the high 80s, then back to the low 90s again. Well, it is getting close to the ol’ summertime heat, so I shouldn’t be surprised.
Did you get to have your “do-nothing” day today? Looks like the temperature was nice.
4 of 8. Dang.
It sounds comfortable there now, unless the breeze is a stiff one.
It’s a bit cooler here tonight than it was last night. 64 at the moment. It sounds like we’ll have similar highs tomorrow.
I did have a do-nothing day. It was a necessity and the ol’ bum back feels a little better tonight. I do wish my back was in better shape because there’s so much that needs to be done around the yards. It sux getting old.
That seems to be the average score tonight...so you’re right along side the rest of us. Thanks for taking the quiz!
Gary Sinise’s F-18 Super Hornet Flight to the USS Theodore Roosevelt in 2017
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqpB-GtWV_g
On #ThrowbackThursday, we go back to 2017 when our Founder & Chairman, Gary Sinise, flew in an F-18 Super Hornet to the USS Theodore Roosevelt. The day before the flight, Gary completed survival training at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, where he also spent some time in the pool learning how to survive in case of a water landing. “Launching off the deck was a tremendous rush. It was a short trip, but a trip I will never forget,” said Gary. “Once again, I was let into our military community to visit up close their courage and skill. The pilots are amazing, of course, but hats off also to the men and women who man the decks of our carriers doing the incredibly dangerous work as our fighter jets, cargo planes, and helicopters keep coming in and going out all day long.”
It’s a bit breezier than I like it when sitting outside. I like virtually NO wind. Like last night. LOL!
I’m glad you took that day in order to help your back. Yes, it does suck to get old...but it’s better than the alternative, in my opinion. :)
A little breeze kissing the skin feels nice on a warm evening. No wind can make it feel a little stuffy. No wind here tonight and even though it’s a little cool, the humidity is high and it feels stuffy out there. They said we’d have a foggy night and it’s beginning to get that way now. I did break down and move the four large plants from the garage to the carport at the old house just now and it’s a bit clammy.
I hope E.G.C. and Gizmo are ok. I’ve had my eyes on the radar tonight and a storm with a tornado warning was several miles west of them when I went out. It passed over them while I was gone and still has a tornado warning on it.
Bible in a Year :
All authority . . . has been given to me.
Even after Jesus had set my son Geoff free from years of substance abuse, I still had worries. We’d been through much together and my focus sometimes remained on his difficult past instead of the future God had for him. Parents of addicts often worry about relapse, and one day at a family gathering, I pulled Geoff aside. “Remember,” I told him, “we have an adversary, and he’s powerful.” “I know, Dad,” he responded. “He has power, but he has no authority.”
In that moment, I was reminded of Jesus’ incomparable authority to rescue us from our sins and transform our lives as we look to Him. Immediately I thought of His words to the disciples shortly before He returned to His Father in heaven: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go . . .” (Matthew 28:18-19).
The crucified and risen Jesus has made a way for us to come to Him no matter what our past may be. He holds both our past and our future. Because He’s promised to be with us always (v. 20), we can be assured that He’ll accomplish His purposes and that our lives are in His unfailing hands. Jesus gives us unparalleled hope, a hope so good we can’t keep it to ourselves. The devil and the world may have some power for a little while, but “all authority” belongs to Jesus forever. .
Reflect & Pray
How does Jesus’ authority give you hope? What has He done for you that you can share with someone today?
Thank You, dear God, for calling me to You in love. Please lead me to someone I can share Your love with today.

8 of 8.
We are OK. We had our 2nd Tornado Warning in a week a few minutes ago. The circulation was over us and we had several power blinks throughout this whole ordeal. That large tornado did cause some damage over in Tillman Country and right now the town of Frederick is without power.
The storms appear to be calming down for now but there's more in the forecast today. We'll see what happens.
That quiz was a toughy, I only got 1 right out of 8, oh well.....
Yesterday at Chisolm Trail Park:
How's everyone doing this morning?
That is the difference. With our low humidity, a calm evening is just plain ol’ pleasant and cooling. Though humidity is definitely better for the skin.
Good evening, Rus! Thanks for joining us and thanks so much for our beautiful lesson from God’s Word!
Awesome! Bravo for a perfect score on the quiz! You DO know your current events!
4/8. Yikes!
Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))
WHEW!!! SO glad you and Gizmo are ok! I was worried. I hope you’re lucky with the next round of storms that will roll through later today.
You ad Gizmo had a beautiful day for your romp at Chisolm Trail Park. Nice to see the lake level is up a bit.
These quizzes are always fun!
I got 5/8.
I hope everyone is doing well as we head into May!
