Animal rights nonprofit group PETA has strongly condemned Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) after she recently shared a story about her killing her 14-month-old dog, “Cricket,” for his lousy hunting skills.
The story is published in her book No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward and was intended to show that when it came to politics or personal life, she wasn’t afraid of getting “messy and ugly.” It instead garnered sharp criticism from animal lovers everywhere.
“Most Americans love their dogs, and we suspect that they will consider Gov. Noem a psychotic loony for letting this rambunctious puppy loose on chickens and then punishing her by deciding to personally blow her brains out rather than attempting to train her or find a more responsible guardian who would provide her with a proper home,” PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “Gov. Noem obviously fails to understand the vital political concepts of education, cooperation, compromise, and compassion.
Noem decided to shoot Cricket after the dog killed a local family’s chickens after a pheasant hunting trip and then bit her when she tried to intervene. Noem said she “hated that dog” and deemed it “less than worthless” for being unable to hunt properly.
After taking the dog to a gravel pit and shooting it, she also shot a goat she owned, which she said stunk and was “nasty and mean.”
Idiots never growing up in rural America on a farm will never understand her reasoning.
That's evidenced by some of the clueless statements here.
I read it. Definitely have to see a lot of unpleasant stuff and do a lot of unpleasant stuff on a farm. But it’s politics...you don’t tell the public this stuff. It was incredibly stupid. Is she going to have an “honest” conversation in her next book and talk about going to the bathroom?
Exactly. Anyone who has lived on a farm fully understands what happened and why. Urban twits who have no clue where the food on their table comes from or what is involved in producing that food get the vapors when confronted with that reality. Unfortunately urban twits far outnumber those with farm experience.
Hope she isn't looking around her for support due to that. Crickets aren't known to be loyal.
Really?
I had a neighbor, a minister. He bought and raised a dog that was half wolf.
The dog was sneaky. It would bite you or your dog, when you weren’t looking.
It would roam and night killing neighbor chickens.
THe pastor just let the POS dog do this knowing that the dog was untrainable and impossible to be doesticated.
He eventually gave the dog away, instead of killing it.
and a coursse, as the story goes, he badly chewed up a baby’s face.
I am sure there are dog breeder’s every where esp ones selling German Shepherds who will kill a new born pup in. a litter is it shies away from gun fire.
A dog who bites its owner is not a dog one gives away. We don’t even know the whole history, there might’ve been other problems along with the bite and chicken-killing. My boss, a veterinarian who lived for hunting season, didn’t kill poor/gun-shy dogs, he gave them to people for pets. I never saw him give a biter away. That would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.
A dangerous what?
If John Steinbeck was alive he would have killed Cricket himself as well.
This would really pull me in both directions if she were to be on the ballot with Trump. My red line is animal cruelty. But my world is Trump. Hope he has more sense than to pick her.
I already didn’t vote for one Republican, now in Utah, who was said to buy animals for research purposes by unethically lying about his intended purpose. I don’t want to have to go thru that emotional crisis again.
Oh My Dog! My dyslexia is acting up again!
Back in the day, a long time ago......I worked for a large ranch next to our small ranch that had thousands of goats that we sheered and drenched and treated medically. Goats were happy and well cared for and the owner made money and we got paid for the labor.
But, back then, dogs owned by others, sometimes a mile or two away, would come on the ranch and kill goats. Our orders were to immediately kill any strange dog on the ranch which we did.
Back then, nobody would have even thought about taking a strange/stray dog to a Vet.
That said, Noem was, in my opinion, wrong to kill the animals for the reasons she stated. Plus, I’ve always thought Noem was flaky. You can never tell what she’s going to do or say.
Her dog killed some chickens. Yes we know the story. She wrote it. However, she completely screwed herself because the book was probably good. But she just had to put this story in to get the rest of the book ignored. Great job governor.
It should be for the animal rights community and shelter workers as well, most of whom are not vegans or even vegetarians unfortunately. Hypocrisy runs deep. How can anyone be so strict on abortion and cavalier with a dog’s (or any animal, not to be speciesism :) is troubling. At least she was honest, I will give credit for coming clean.
She's a cop? who knew?
Life is different out on the ranch. City folk will never understand. Never say the quiet part out loud.
Agreed. She is toast. I believe she has been since the “theatre incident.”
I despise him, too.
Wow. Farm people eat dog? That’s a new one.
She put the dong down for being out of control.
That status has many variances.
Many dogs have reached the same ending.
And it bit HER.
My understanding is that once a dog learns to kill animals, it doesn't unlearn it. Additionally, any dog that will bite its owner cannot be placed with anyone.
