Former President Donald Trump renewed on Monday his new-found opposition to a potential TikTok ban—which he had sought as president—blaming President Joe Biden for its possible passage and claiming it would only boost Facebook.
Trump claimed in a Truth Social post that “Crooked Joe Biden” is “responsible” for a potential TikTok ban, claiming Biden “is the one pushing it to close, and doing it to help his friends over at Facebook become richer and more dominant.”
Facebook parent company Meta and spokespeople for Biden’s re-election campaign did not immediately respond to Forbes’ request for comment.
Trump’s comments come two days after the House of Representatives passed a foreign aid package paving the way for a potential TikTok ban while also providing funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan—which TikTok blasted as “unfortunate,” saying the bill would “trample the free speech rights of 170 million Americans” who use the app.
If signed into law, the bill would give TikTok’s Chinese parent company ByteDance nine months to sell the company or else face a ban in the U.S.—a previous version of the bill gave ByteDance just six months to divest the app.
While Trump pursued a TikTok ban when he was in office, he has been more critical in recent months of an outright ban: Last month, Trump claimed a ban on TikTok would result in rival Facebook becoming “bigger,” slamming the Meta-owned platform as the “enemy of the people” in an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” and claimed days later that TikTok is “less of a danger to the USA than Meta.”

The bill being massive overreach and Tik Tok as a benign platform are two entirely different things.
Similar to how running a state that is entirely GOP thanks is completely different than running a nation with the Democrats.
I suspect the reason the politicians want to ban tik-tok is because tik-tok is not paying them the kind of tribute that they expect to get from a large tech enterprise.

The competition - Meta (Facebook, Instagram) - is quietly engaged in the industrial-scale provision of children's social media contact information to pedophiles.
Tik Tok wants those same children to buy cheap junk on Temu.
Most conservative content is censored or removed on Meta.
Tik Tok does not censor conservative content.

Yes. They can censor us on a Meta platform.
Right now on TikTok, they can't do that.
TikTok does provide access to US user’s info to CCP affiliated companies. There’s ample articles about that.
That’s a legitimate reason to force a sale of TikTok for users in US to continue to use.
The issue with US government agencies having access to user data? Different issue.
