“The planet” has been around far longer than man and life on it has survived changes for more immense than humans can imagine today.

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever..”
It will be replaced by a new heaven and new earth.

Scripture suggests that the condition of the earth is tied to man's sin. "You shall not pollute the land in which you live, for blood pollutes the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of the one who shed it." - Numbers 35:33
"The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish. The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched, and few men are left. - Isaiah 24:4-6
If the Pope wants to save the Earth, he should preach that first and foremost abortion (shedding of innocent blood) is what defiles the Earth according to God's Word. Additionally, the sin of greed and indifference toward causing pollution affects the Earth.
The Pope should be preaching the need for repentance from sin, which is the major cause Earth's demise.
I generally ignore this much like Kwanza and Pride Month and all the other left wing holy days.
